Neill Blomkamp Is Not Directing The Hobbit

Neill Blomkamp will not direct The Hobbit
We reported a few days ago that the director of last year's sci-fi blockbuster District 9 was heading to Middle Earth and now it seems that won't be the case. Vulture is reporting that Neill Blomkamp is not directing The Hobbit.

The site spoke with someone at Blomkamp's agency, William Morris Endeavor, who revealed that no one from MGM or Warner Bros. had approached them about Blomkamp directing the film.

The news isn't terribly surprising, since we reported last week that MGM and Warner Bros. were not pursuing other directors until they hear a definitive yes or no from Peter Jackson on whether or not he will step in to direct the film.

Vulture is also reporting that Blomkamp's new sci-fi film will be entitled Elysium and, while they said that the, "storyline is being closely guarded," it was believed that this film will be set on another planet. We first reported on this new Blomkamp film back in October, which is being set up by Media Rights Capital.

We'll be sure to keep you posted on any further news on The Hobbit or Blomkamp's Elysium as soon as we have more information.

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey comes to theaters December 14th, 2012 and stars Cate Blanchett, Saoirse Ronan, Orlando Bloom, Elijah Wood, Martin Freeman, David Tennant, Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee. The film is directed by Peter Jackson.

The other article wasn't a confirmation. In fact, it quite clearly states it's just a rumor based on tons of speculation, so you can't really say it was "fake," or, more importantly, gloat that you were right in pointing out a rumor was fake. If the headline didn't have a question mark at the end of it and then this particular article showed up, then yeah, the former would be fake. Soooo, you can shut the f*ck up and pull your head out of your own anus. Some of us just like to comment on the *possibility* that a director could take on the project, and most of the people on the thread used words like "if" and "could," meaning they knew full well it was just a rumor. Also, I didn't see anyone actually attack you for stating that the news was "fake." So, again, shut the f*ck up.

Every possible director will probably turn up as a rumor throughout the next couple of weeks, and then the actual director will be confirmed as someone nobody expected lol

Anyway, while I didn't have a problem with Blomkamp directing the Hobbit, it's good to see he's developing another original sci-fi flick.
