Adventure-loving house painter Mr. Popper (Jim Carrey) contends with the problem of having too many penguins in director Mark Waters' adaptation of author Richard Atwater's beloved children's book. Shortly after penning a letter to a team of Arctic explorers, Mr. Popper is surprised to receive a penguin in the mail. Later, after making his mischievous new pal a cozy new home in the freezer, the hapless Mr. Popper comes into possession of a playful female penguin as well. Before long Mr. Popper finds himself surrounded by a growing family of the flightless birds, and begins training them to perform in a traveling show dubbed Popper's Performing Penguins. With each new town the show travels to, pandemonium is quick to follow.

Mr. Popper's Penguins was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Jim Carrey, Carla Gugino, Angela Lansbury, Ophelia Lovibond, Madeline Carroll, Clark Gregg, Jeffrey Tambor, David Krumholtz. The film is directed by Mark Waters.

What the hell!??!?! I read the book "Mr. Popper's Penguins" when I was a kid ...and I don't even remember nothing like "THIS"!! ... Oh and I hate the song "Ice Ice Baby"....!

    WOW ...I will skip this!

BTW Hollywood .... The 1938 classic tells the story of Mr. Popper, the small-town housepainter who dreamed of exploring Antarctic regions, and Captain Cook, the redoubtable penguin who turned Mr. Popper's world upside down.

I hope there is not alot of CGI in this, other tahn that looks ok. He needs to a stand up special with HBO or Showtime and show us why we use to love him and i say that with a lot of respect because you couldn't not touch him in the early 90's.Maybe someday day .......

@dan1 Yeah, look it up. It starred Josh Flitter as Ace, Jr. The film showed that Ace and Courtney Cox's character from the first movie got married although they used a different actress in this film.

It came out a few years ago.

@jptheredskull i agree that he does try to step out of the box (though i think better examples than Junior would have been "Eteral Sunshine...", "Truman Show", "Lemony Snicket", "The Majestic" or "Man on the Moon")... the problem is (as with all actors who cannot/do not change) you can still see the actor in the role vs the character they wish to portray. Carey has tried, but failed in most "out of the box" roles (though his take as Andy Kaufman was probably better than the other). a good example of an actor becoming their character is Jamie Foxx as Ray Charles or Jaquin Phoenix as Jonny Cash.... both were EPIC (especially Foxx)!

@rufio Good Point. But he does seem to want to escape the box he was put in, acting wise, by his previous roles. For example, He turned down a role in Ace Ventura, Jr.. Thats actually on of the main reasons it ended up going straight-to-tv and dvd.

@jptheredskull i wish it were a homage to his early days... unfortunately he hasn't changed at all since his early days (just b/c they play ice ice baby doesn't make it a homage/parody). you could take his line delivery and performance and over lap it with Bruce Almighty, Grinch, Yes Man, Liar Liar or most of his other works and he is the same in each. same tired delivery. the only difference is this one is geared toward kids and most of his costars are penguins (which makes it a little more appealing... if it were dogs none of us would be interested). plus it doesn't help that it is based off a book and has a built in audience.

@dan1 Yeah, the end was a bit corny. It's obviously a nod to his beginnings on In Living Color and his parody of Vanilla Ice's Ice Ice Baby, White White Baby.
