With our new Movie Face-Off, you'll be able to systematically decide which of your favorite movies is heads above the rest. Now, you can finally discover what your all-time favorite movie is, where the rest of them fall within your taste-barometer, and exactly what type of movie lover you really are.
It's easy!
- Rank movies in terms of which one you think is better.
- Keep playing to create your own personal "top" lists
- Share ranks and Face-offs between your favorite movies
- Compare your cinematic tastes with your friends, family, and other members of the Movieweb community!
How It Works
The more you play Face-Off! The better you will understand your own specific tastes as a passionate moviegoer. As you continue to click through each film pairing, your all-time "Top List" will begin to systimatically sort itself out, giving you the most accurate account of your own likes and dislikes when it comes to the world of cinema. Just as well, Face-off will also track what movies you haven't seen and allow you to add them to your "Want To See" lists for future queuing.
Getting Started
Go to Face-Off!, and you will be given the choice between two movie posters spanning an entire history of cinematic greatness. It will be a battle between giants as you click on the titles that you think are better. It will be a heated brawl, with some match-ups being easy to decide: The Godfather vs.
Baby Geniuses, some being hard to decide: The Godfather vs. Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope, and some being a complete draw: The Godfather vs. The Godfather: Part II.
As you click on your favorite titles, your own private Top 20 list will begin to generate itself, and overtime, you will be able see what movies you like best. Don't worry, you don't have to decide if you haven't seen one of the movies. There's also a 'haven't seen it' option that will regenerate itself until you have seen the two movies, as prepared for their own private bloody brawl.
What If I Messed Up?
No problem! Either hit the "Undo" button right after you rank a movie, or access that movie anywhere on the site and click the "Remove" button from the "Ranked" dropdown. Easy at that.
What About Adding My Own Movies?
Don't feel like your specific movie tastes are represented in the Face-Off!? Don't worry! Add your own movies to the list by using the search engine at the top of any page and directly add any movie that comes up into your ranks. Click "Rank" and go!
Profile Ranks Lists
After playing the game, you will be able to go to your very own "Ranks page" in your profile. You'll be able to not only see where certain films fall on your list, but you will be able to see where those movies also rank on your friends' lists as well.
What are you waiting for. Its time to pull the gloves off and get dirty as your favorite, and not so favorite, movie titles battle it out for the highest ranking on your favorites list! Which one is better? You decide!

@BuckOwens You're wrong. Movieweb is just making sh*t better. FC is stuck in f*cking 1986 with their lame-ass website. MW for life.

It's a lot more time. I can't properly determine if I want to see the movie or not just based on the poster. Without actually going to the page and reading what the movie is about and who is in it, it's a total blind choice, and all that extra work isn't fun for me.
If I wanted a list of movies I wanted to see that I haven't, I'd have made one myself.

@shuabert How much longer does it really take anyway? Mouseover and click. Still VERY nearly as fast as just hitting that button before... but even more useful.

@shuabert i LOVE it - because it helps me build my list of stuff that I've not seen that I want to... Great for helping select something for those nights when you're thinking "now what was it I wanted to see...?"

I hate this new "interested/not interested" feature. What's fun about this game is that it's supposed to be really fast, but this just adds another step to the matchups and requires thinking. Bleh.

@shuabert NO ONE wins in a lawsuit (except the lawyers). That I know.

@justincase Well, I agree that MW likes to be constantly improving on things, which is part of what I like about the site. However, I think the threat of a lawsuit is a little different than the word of "random dudes on the 'net".
@diaigma Hell, someone already started throwing the word "terrorists" around.

Stick around long enough, guys... One thing you'll notice about these MW guys... They don't let moss grow on their stuff. Don't think for a minute that the only reason they make changes is because of anything some random dudes on the 'net have to say.

Well the whole thing is identical to flickchart, so I doubt removing that one button will do much to help their case. :P

@shuabert It was identical to Flickchart's setup so they had to remove it to try to help their case in the coming lawsuit. Sorry for the inconvenience.

@BuckOwens The ridiculousness comes in when people think they have something original and need to own the rights to it to the exclusion of all others. What exactly did FC create that we "stole": the idea of comparing two things? a top twenty list? the color red? websites about movies? What's ridiculous are your people's misinformed accusations, your mixing of fact and fantasy, your harassment of our users on this very website, and your frantic obsession with trashtalking this site to whoever will listen in an attempt to shatter and shame our reputation with your odd George W. Bush terminology: calling us shameless, wrongdoers, and terrorists. Really terrorists? Is that really an appropriate term? It's hard to take someone seriously when they are behaving so erratically.

@ejk1 - has a point.
(figured I'd throw in my three cents now) What good will it do arguing besides constantly upstarting each other? Nothing we say here is going to change what happens in the courtroom. All I'm seeing is a bunch of "got to have the last word" comments. I propose we move on and let the legal team with the best legs stand. That's really all we, as users, can do.

@BuckOwens So what? If you are leaving as you say, do it. Once you MW sent you the e-mail, just delete it, since you're leaving. Or how about just deleting your account? You don't seem to have a use for this site, since you have had this account for a week, and have yet to comment on any other story thread. You said you were leaving, and yet you keep coming back because you get e-mails? That's a copout, and a classic excuse for an attention-whor*. You don't want to be bothered, yet you keep the lifeline intact? Yeah, you aren't doing this for the attention at all. Right :P

@BuckOwens "I told you I was taking off. Why are you still addressing me?"
You see! I knew you would respond. If you were indeed "leaving," you would never have noticed what I said. And yet, here you are, responding once more! And once again, it seems like you missed a part of my last statement, as you completely ignored my breakdown of the situation and focused on what you clearly find most important-you. Now, I just responded to someone who has claimed to be leaving, yet has responded twice afterwards. Let's see if he goes for the trifecta....

@justincase Oh, I forgot. I mentioned the "two people" so you guys might consider that the actions of Movieweb are affecting actual people. Instead of you guys claiming it's a minor skirmish or just about a "game".
Oh, and "Bye".

BuckOwens
@xssiv Oh, yeah "bye". Thanks!
@ejk1 I told you I was taking off. Why are you still addressing me? You have a ridiculous need to assign motivations to people so you can rationalize your view of the world. It wasn't an attention grab, nor am I a troll. The users here continuously made stupid comments to legitimate arguments, and I only returned the favor (but my arguments actually made sense). You can single out my brain quirk for misspelling "bye", but that's just petty. You don't seem to be able to understand that law and morality exist separately. Face-Off may be "legally" acceptable based on a loophole (though I doubt it), but blatantly copying someone else's work and design is not moral. There is a difference. Wake up.

This is asinine. @BuckOwens you seem to be missing the point, which isn't surpring considering that in an attempt to correct your own mistake, you ended up looking like an even larger ass than before. So let's set this straight right now: MW's Face-Off is very similar to FC. FC had their lawyers send out what is essentially a cease and desist letter, which MW has not complied with. A possible reason for this non-compliance could be that in consultation with their own lawyers, MW found reason to think this was no big deal, perhaps a copyright loophole. Regardless, it is now a legal matter, to be decided in a courtroom by a judge, or most likely, a mediation session in which a compromise will be made. I've actually told you this before, but it obviously didn't get through to your brain.
And why didn't it get through to your brain? The answer is simple: You had to grandstand and make a fuss. That is what this comes down to, dude. It isn't about right and wrong. Oh, in your mind it may have started out that way, but no one, if they are truly in the right, continues to beat a dead horse, which as I've stated before, you have done for a whole week. You have lost the mission, and now come to MW not for some high-ideal, not to bring justice to MW, but because somewhere along the way, you liked the attention you were getting. Now you crave that attention. And that's fine, because you are not the first troll to appear here--as a matter of fact, you are rather benign, if a little bit irritating. But make no mistake, dude, this has become nothing more than an attention grab, and a selfish one at that.
