Mortal Kombat Gets Web Series

Warner Premiere will debut a brand new Mortal Kombat web series, which could pave the way for a Mortal Kombat theatrical reboot.

We reported back in June that an incredibly popular new Mortal Kombat video was actually shot as test footage for Warner Bros., to try and secure funding for a new Mortal Kombat movie. While there is still no word on the movie project, this upcoming web series will include those responsible for the test footage. To refresh your memory, you can take a look at the Mortal Kombat short below:

Kevin Tancharoen, who directed the test footage, will direct the 10-episode web series. He will also write the scripts along with Todd Helbing and Aaron Helbing. Michael Jai White will also return to star as Jackson "Jax" Briggs. The plot will center on a group who bands together to save Earth from Shang Tsung and Shao Khan, who are both ruling parallel universes.

Shooting will start in February, on location in Vancouver. Roles which still need to be cast are Shang Tsung, Liu Kang, Sub Zero, Durak, Kabal, Kitana/Mileena and Scorpion. No release date was given for the web series.

Mortal Kombat comes to theaters in 2013.

No one has to think hard on who my fav character is in the world of MK, Glad to see they returned him to the wild card position. He never had any interest other then the one who killed him in the first place. Curious as to how far they are going to delve into it though. real world as it is there are supernatural characters included.

I'm liking that Ed Boon and Co. are bringing the new Mortal Kombat game back to its roots with today's graphics, and the way they are going about this series. This could lead into the film on the game that will do it justice.

now this is a good approach to it but also keeping mind the classic way could be redone and done right to, so i guess we will have to wait and see what direction they take it
