Monsters 2 Moves Ahead Without Gareth Edwards

Monsters 2 gets new directors

At the Cannes Film Festival this week, Screen Daily is reporting that original Monsters creator, Gareth Edwards, will not be directing sequel to the sleeper hit, and instead Brent Bonacorso and Jesse Atlas have stepped in to helm the project.

Monsters 2 will still have Gareth Edwards serving as executive producer alongside actor Scoot McNairy and Vertigo Films' Rupert Preston.

This story will continue by introducing a teacher living in a protected walled city, who has to go into the infected zone to find his long-lost brother, a former military man who is now a Col. Kurtz-esque figure. Vertigo Films' Allan Niblo promises "lots more creatures" than the original.

Niblo assures fans that the sequel won't betray the spirit of the original...

"We wouldn't have done it if we didn't find the right talent [in the two new directors]. Gareth loves their vision. People want to see more of this world."

Monsters was released October 29th, 2010 and stars Whitney Able, Scoot McNairy. The film is directed by Gareth Edwards.

honestly, the 1st movie was such a letdown for me, no freakin aliens until the last 10 min

I caught ALOT of sh*t when i made my friends sit down and watch this but to be honest i liked it , i'm glad it wasn't over the top action. If sequel gets a theatrical release date and not straight to dvd i'm down for it :)

I like the fact that they are adding more creatures, but I don't want to see the film stay to the spirit of the original. I want to see it go in a different direction, With a totally new director. I don't want to see the same movie, with some more monsters. I don't want to see a directors cut, I want a sequel. I don't even want a sequel, cuz the first was a piece of sh*t, but if it's gunna happen, then go in a new direction.
