Mission: Impossible IV Gets Writers

Josh Applebaum and Andre Nemec have signed on to write the screenplay for Mission: Impossible IV for producers Tom Cruise and J.J. Abrams and Paramount Pictures.

According to Variety, the scribes aren't big feature names yet, but they join a roster of writers who transitioned from Abrams TV series creations to pen the features he directs and produces through his Bad Robot banner.

Applebaum and Nemec spent four seasons with Abrams as co-exec producers of Alias, and they will script Mission: Impossible IV based on a story Abrams wrote with them.

While the only other commitments so far are for Cruise and Abrams to produce the film together, sources said that Cruise's character, Ethan Hunt, will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity.

"I've been looking forward to working with Josh and Andre again for years," Abrams said. "Their sense of balance between character and action is wonderful, which I know is hugely important to Tom as well. We're off to an exciting start, so, as usual, fingers crossed."

The film is aimed for a 2011 release.

Mission: Impossible Ghost Protocol was released December 21st, 2011 and stars Tom Cruise, Jeremy Renner, Simon Pegg, Paula Patton, Michael Nyqvist, Vladimir Mashkov, Samuli Edelmann, Ivan Shvedoff. The film is directed by Brad Bird.

22 Bond films to be exact. But Christian bale would make a very interesting character. What they should do is have him as a bad agent at first and then is forced into doing something good? I also doubt this franchise will turn into like a big spy franchise like Bond, but I wouldn't be surprised if this franchise goes to MI7 or something.

there's twenty odd Bond films, we'll see what happens with this film but Tom should step aside and let someone else in. Chris Bale would do a good job, but he's well... he gets upset.

I'm really sure that this franchise will work without Cruise. Simply because i'm not a huge Cruise fan, and his character, Hunt, has just been steamed rolled over billions of times, in my opinion, thanks to MI3.

Sorry phxman, I wish i knew about your problem. I don't own a blue ray. I'm just waiting til they work all the kinks out and it gets cheaper.

No, you do a Bourne Supremacy and kill his wife off at the beginning of the movie. You can't do the movie without Ethan Hunt as the main star (unless you reboot and keep the whole team).

Well Hunt retired at the end of the last film, so any involvement would have to be just a cameo.

I should f*cking hope that "Ethan Hunt, will certainly be involved in an onscreen capacity." I wouldn't like to see them try it without Hunt.
