Paramount continues to expand HD-DVD and Blu-ray technology via the Mission: Impossible III DVD.

In a recent story from The Digital Bits, it appears that the HD-DVD and Blu-ray versions of Mission: Impossible III are going to be two disc sets. All of the extras are identical with the main difference being the commentary track on the HD-DVD being "picture-in-picture" and only audio on the Blu-ray disc.

The sound on the Blu-ray Disc will be in regular Dolby Digital, while the sound on the HD-DVD will be Dolby Digital Plus.

Apparently, the film itself is going to be on one disc with most of the extras finding their way to the second one. The discs are both going to be in 1080 high-definition with some of the bonus features only being available in the standard format.

This is the first time that a two disc set is going to be available in HD-DVD and Blu-ray.

Here is the disc breakdown (for the special features):

Disc One

- There is going to be an audio commentary by Tom Cruise and director J.J. Abrams (this will be enhanced with picture-in-picture for HD DVD and audio-only for Blu-ray)

Disc Two
- The Making of the Mission documentary (HD-DVD)
- Deleted scenes (HD-DVD)
- Inside the IMF featurette (Standard)
- Mission Action: Inside the Action Unit featurette (HD-DVD)
- Visualizing the Mission featurette (HD-DVD)
- Mission: Metamorphosis featurette (HD-DVD)
- Scoring the Mission featurette (HD-DVD)

Mission: Impossible III comes to DVD stores everywhere October 30.

Mission: Impossible III was released May 5th, 2006 and stars Tom Cruise, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Ving Rhames, Billy Crudup, Michelle Monaghan, Jonathan Rhys Meyers, Keri Russell, Maggie Q. The film is directed by J.J. Abrams.
