Variety reports that Miramax has picked up the feature film rights to Ernessa Carter's novel 32 Candles.

The story is modern day fairy tale about a not so good looking girl from Mississippi who travels to Los Angeles. While there, she becomes "a beautiful lounge singer and runs into her high school crush." He doesn't know who she is and is smitten with her.

Harper nabbed the publishing rights to Carter's book this past May.
