Miramax Films has picked up the rights to the novel by Adam Roberts, The Wonga Coup.

It's based on the true story of British mercenaries deposing of an African dictator so they could tap into the country's oil resources, says Variety. The coup was plotted for Equatorial Guinea, a tiny African nation with an outsized supply of oil.

The studio has not set a production schedule for The Wonga Coup.
