Mickey Rourke and Sam Rockwell
In the upcoming sequel, Rourke will play Iron Man's nemesis Crimson Dynamo. The character has been described as Tony Stark's Russian alter ego. He is a heavily tattooed bruiser involved in the arms trade. And he will battle Iron Man in his own nuclear powered suit. A report from The Hollywood Reporter has different take on the villian, though. They say that Rourke will be playing a Russian heavy named Ivan who becomes Whiplash, a man with deadly, technologically enhanced coils.
So, which is it? Whiplash or Crimson Dynamo? At this time, the heavily guarded script is still being written. The nature of Rourke's inclusion in the story is all speculative. The film is set for a May 7th, 2010 release date.
Iron Man 2 was released May 7th, 2010 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Sam Rockwell, Mickey Rourke, Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Jon Favreau.

I think Rourke and Rockwell will make great additions to the cast. Hope they sign both of them.

His first name (Jeff Bridges) in the movie was Obadiah. I remember that because it was a name you do not hear very often.

He was Stane?! lol wow, now I know why I couldn't remember Jeff Bridges character's name in the movie, and I'm pretty good with that kinda stuff.

Great news Rouke would make a pretty cool Crimson Dynamo or Whiplash. I am excited they got Justin hammer in this he was from the 90's cartoon series who worked with Mandarin to kill Stark and take his armor. Also will Mandarin be in this or what?

Is that Stane guy you referring to that terrorist leader from the first Iron Man? The one who gets the side of his face messed up? Btw, I thought he got shot by Jeff Bridges' henchmen in the tent?

This is from Wizard Magazine for all you who are whining Iron Man is fighting another tech-based villain:
""Mandarin is still an important figure in the Iron Man universe (Favreau) said. "We have an interesting take on him that allows us to incorporate the whole pantheon of villains."
Favreau has yet to clarify the statement-it's possible the Mandarin could summon a troupe of villains to oppose Stark-but (Matt) Fraction advises not to expect the standard-issue depiction of the main antagonist. "It's tough when you've got a guy with a Fu Manchu mustache and imperial robes," he says. "You can bring a mature and fully formed character to the screen that doesn't play on stereotypes."
However he's formed, it's possible Mandarin will remain a string-pulling puppeteer than someone with as much screen time as the first film's villain, Obadiah Stane..."
SO, there's still a possibility Mandarin will be in the sequel, but in the background pulling the strings...maybe Dynamo's. We'll see

Good point BD, Mandarin is kinda a unbelievable character but they could easily twist the whole rings thing to just be developed technology stolen from Stark Enterprises or something. They can manipulate stuff like that. They wouldn't even need to have any mystism or alien-ish stuff involved. I guarantee they will make Thor modern. I don't know if he'd do well in the box office if he wasn't modified into a real world type of movie. They could f*ck with the origins so much if they wanted to; they could even try to pull stuff from their ass like Thor works for Tony or knows Tony and he is browsing through Tony's "newest toys" room, and spots this Hammer looking thing and asks him about it and then later he uses it and armor created by Tony. And maybe Thor has a weird obsession with Norse stuff so Tony makes his armor look that of a Norse God. I know a lot of you would probably hate that, but that's the easiest way to tie those two opposite characters together in a believable world. Twist the story. See, Tony has a cool funny and "okay man I'll do it for ya" type of attitude; so he would make armor for Thor cause he's just cool like that. Robert Downy Jr.'s version of him anyway, is pretty laid back and yet helpful at the same time.

This works perfectly with the greater Marvel movie plan. By the time the third movie comes out thor (a magic/fantasy character) will have been established in the Marvel movie Universe, making Magic and all that comes with if part of Iron Man's worlds, making is easier to explain y Tony Stark is fighting a mystical characters

Mmm_mmm
yeah i think that The Mandarin would tie in at the end
because the terrorist group in the first was The Ten Rings. Which was his weapon in comics.
perhaps this movie shall also bring to light another clue

I think this movie will be decent with Favreau at the helm. These two guys have made decent villians in the past so I'm not worried about it. And for those that are bitching because Tony Stark will face another villian in an armored suit, Shut up. That's what the majority of his villians are based around, guys in hightech suits deal with it.

Ok i aint the massive Iron Man Fan, but i've obviously gathered that Mandarin is a fan fav here.
Erm you guys do realise Iron Man is set to be a trilogy?
I reckon Mandarin will be left for the grand finale...
Wasn't War Machine a Iron Man Villain as well?

LAME!! so the options are another guy in a suit or a dominatrix.. Choosing the Crimson Dynamo would bring up the Russians vs Americans idea, it gets so old!

I think we will see the bald middle eastern dude from Iron Man one come into play at some point in this movie, i think you will see him be set up as some sort of Mandarin. I mean he leads the ten rings ( a reference to Mandarins ten magic rings of power) plus you see the guy fiddling with his ring throughout the movie...but i think you will be Mandarin in Iron Man 3
