Michelle Pfeiffer Joins The Cast Of Hairspray

Michelle Pfeiffer has signed on to star in the musical comedy, Hairspray for New Line Cinema.

The film is the adaptation of the hit Broadway show, based on the 1988 John Waters comedy about star-struck teenagers on a local Baltimore dance show. The Hollywood Reporter notes Pfeiffer will play Velma von Tussel, a former beauty queen (Miss Baltimore Crabs) who can't move on and who is the producer of the dance show.

The cast already includes John Travolta as Edna Turnblad, Queen Latifah as Motormouth Maybelle, Amanda Bynes as Penny Pingleton, Brittany Snow as Amber von Tussel, Zac Efron as Link Larkin, Elijah Kelley as Seaweed and newcomer Nikki Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad.

Hairspray is being directed by Adam Shankman. Shooting begins in September in Toronto and Baltimore; a June 2007 release date is scheduled.

Hairspray was released July 20th, 2007 and stars John Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, Christopher Walken, Amanda Bynes, James Marsden, Queen Latifah, Brittany Snow, Zac Efron. The film is directed by Adam Shankman.
