Michele and Kieran Mulroney Discuss Brad Pitt Possibly Being in Sherlock Holmes 2

Will Brad Pitt take the role of Professor Moriarty?
Will Brad Pitt take the role of Professor Moriarty?
Collider recently sat down with Michele and Kieran Mulroney to discuss their new film Paper Man.

These two were also commissioned by Warner Bros. to write a Sherlock Holmes sequel. In fact they began to write it before the first Sherlock Holmes was released. During their interview they even dropped a little update about the direction that the new film might be going in. Particularly they broached the subject of Brad Pitt playing Professor Moriarty in Sherlock Holmes 2. Here is what Michele Mulroney said:

Well, of course, we're gigantic Brad Pitt fans. I think he's a brilliant actor and a particularly brilliant character actor. And certainly the role that you're talking about of Professor Moriarty is a big character to bite off. I hope Brad likes it. Let's leave it at that. To be political, we should say nothing.

The writers went on to evade questions about the actual story but it seems like Pitt is, at the very least, someone who just might be playing the role in the film.

Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows was released December 16th, 2011 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Jude Law, Noomi Rapace, Rachel McAdams, Jared Harris, Stephen Fry, Paul Anderson, Kelly Reilly. The film is directed by Guy Ritchie.

Good choice. Don't know why people are upset about SH. Its just a different take. After all NO ONE will ever beat Basil Rathbone and Nigel Bruce as Holmes and Watson. So just enjoy it for what it is.

The film with Downey was not taken from the Doyle stories, but rather the comic that was written by Lionel Wigram. It's not in the vein of the original stories, but a stylized version.

What's all this about Sherlock Holmes not having any frills or bells? The new film, perfectly enjoyable as it was, was dumbed down from the books. The original Sherlock Holmes was addicted to Cocaine!

Don't talk about movies you admittedly haven't seen. Sherlock Holmes didn't "take most of his clothes off". He didn't take any of his clothes off as you'd know if you watch the movie. He gets drugged by a frenemy who outsmarts him.

I Won't see it if Pitt is in it. When I saw Sherlock Holmes in the long distant past, I never saw him 3/4(and a Married man too) naked in bed either!! Thats Why I Didn't go see the First SH's. Mockery of one of the Best shows in history! Did you see the original Mr. Holmes take most of his clothes off?? No, it had a Lot More Important things to do and that was to find the person who allegedly did the foul deed!! You know, keeping a plot going that centers its core on doing the job and getting it Solved. Nothing more, nothing less. I never saw it much but I enjoyed it because there was No frills and bells to try and keep our attention like nowadays

pitt is definitely not good for this role he does not read wise professor at ALL he reads pretty boy as VB said. brad is a good actor i dont doubt that but he does not look the part and YES looks do matter in a role. a person needs to look fit for the part they should definitely get someone older

This is not a role for a pretty boy. And Pitt is not that great an actor. Wait a minute, Jude law stared in the first one. Ok, maybe Pitt will be ok for this then.

Malcom McDowell is a great actor, but I think they would be smarter to cast someone closer to Downey Jr.'s own age. Pitt is perfect for the role.

That would be so awesome if he did it.

Yeah Dedpool, That's exactly why I (the someone below) suggested Malcolm McDowell.

He'd be a very interesting Moriarty. I find it funny two americans are playing one of Britains most popluar heroes and his arch nemesis.

Heard about this shortly after Sherlock Holmes was released in theaters. I love this news, Pitt will be great as Moriarty, I can't wait to see the 2nd film!

I wonder if they're ever going to release who played him for those few scenes in Sherlock Holmes...

He needs to go back to playng dramatic roles, not these roles where he can just play cool and ride on that. I feel that his best role to date was "Spy Game". A fish out of water is always more credible than the c*cky hero. Will Smith in "Enemy of the State". Another best role for me.

I just see the SH sequel turning into a "whose the bigger star" pissing contest, that an actual entertaining movie. I would rather see a Malcolm Mcdowell type or Jeff Goldblum as Moriarty. Somebody who could pull off being intelligent.
