"It's ridiculous!" says Michael Shannon of the casting, "It just came out of nowhere. I'm talking to my agent and she goes, 'How about Superman?' 'What?' The idea that I would ever be in Superman. 'Are you serious?'"
"So I go meet him [Zack Snyder] and he's seriously sitting there and he's telling me - he's like 'You can't read the script, so I'm just gonna tell you what happens.' And he spent like a half hour telling me every scene in this movie...and then it's a month later, it's like 'OK, you're General Zod.'

Michael Shannon also revealed Zack Snyder championed him for the part during the month-long process where he screen tested against Henry Cavill.
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@moviegeek you must not have seen the owl movie, cuz its two to three movies for most people that zack snyder has failed with

But, keep this in mind. Synder is better with adaptations, much better. Sucker Punch will be a lesson learned for him not to make his own material.

@mattbierwagen Yeap, I probably will :P One movie rarely stops me from seeing another featuring the same star, or in this case, director.

@moviegeek so do i, but will you really see superman in theaters after seeing suckerpunch and reading this article without extremely fantastic reason for it? I know i wont. But @corey sees everything and doesn't need reason haha.

Okay, just a few more casting rosters left, and I just wish they would have given Alice Eve a look. I mean whatever character Ms. Lohan is auditioning for would most likely be better off being portrayed by someone like Alice Eve or Rachel Nichols. Two actresses who are talented and wouldn't bring any distraction to the movie or bad press. I mean if Lohan does indeed get the role, then I can't help but think, that's all anyone will be thinking about while watching this movie is her troubles. That wouldn't be good!

@jptheredskull i respectfully disagree. I think that zach snyder is being more like brothers strauss right than chris nolan. zack snyder will never level up to chris nolan; its obvious because chris nolan literally outdoes himself every movie, while every one of zack snyder's movies has been worse than the one before it. After suckerpunch he literally has no right to deny people the script and actually believe people will trust that.

@diaigma zack snyder just cant fool me anymore. the only case i will ever see this movie before it comes to dvd is literally if you, @dan1, @moviegeek, or @corey reviews it for at least 4 stars. And I assume it will be screeny who reviews it because he sees everything both good and bad

I dunno, here's my thinking on it... I'm not familiar with the superman series of comics however I DO know, i'm getting dejavu with all the familiar baddies. Isn't there some other villians that they could introduce? I've seen all this before - stop playing it safe, let's bring out something new to the franchise. Superman surely defeated more foes than Lex and Zod.

Billy Zane could be a great Lex Luthor..

@jptheredskull good point on Lex. That's what I enjoyed most about Smallville. Having Lex and Clark become friends and then the extreme hate he grows for him is what drove the show. It makes more sense as to why Lex would hate superman so bad.

@cupid They could also use dinosaur Island/The Source from Justice League: New Frontier which I seriously think the JLA movie should be based on. That comic and the film adaptation are f*cking amazing.

@jptheredskull Thats the kinda Lex i want to see the movies never showed him as the billionaire who own almost everything only as a low down criminal.
Brainiac and Darkseid can make great villains for JLA.

Zod seems like the easy way out...or easy way back IN as it were. A well known villian who is and shares similar powers and weaknesses as Supes. Its the safest route, i get that but i was hoping for something more in your face or at least "out of left field"
1 year agoby @skywiseFlag
J.P.
@cupid If he is in the films, I want it to be in the capacity it was in the first seasons of Smallville where he's originally a good guy but eventually descends into madness. That's the Lex I want to see. Zod is a good villain though. I wanted him from the beginning anyways. He was the logical choice. He's known. They could have done a obscure villian like Metallo or Mxysptlyk but the fans wouldn't have responded the same and it's way to early for Brainiac, Doomsday, or Darkseid, who should really be saved for the JLA film.

@jptheredskull I totally agree with you on Lex, but if he does make a small cameo in the movie that wont upset me, but yeah glad its Zod and not Lex.

@cupid I' m glad it's Zod. At least it's not Luthor again. If it was Lex, I wouldn't even bother with this film. I'm still concerned because he's being cast in this film.

@mattbierwagen Nope. Zack Snyder is just doing his best to be Christopher Nolan now that Nolan won't be directing more DC comics films.
This is evident because
1. he's keeping Story and Plot details super secret even from the cast.
and
2. He doesn't want HIS Superman is the JLA film.
and that my friend is spot on of that dick Chris Nolan.

Still dont think we need Zod again but am over that now, lets hope that he can bring it, after all he's playing to the role of Zod.
