The Vatican Tapes follows the haunting tale of 27-year-old Angela Holmes, played by Dudley an ordinary girl who begins to have a devastating effect on anyone close to her, causing serious injury and death. The local priest, Father Lozano, played by Peña examines Holmes and believes she is possessed, but when Vicar Imani, portrayed by Hounsou, and Cardinal Bruun, played by Andersson are called from the Vatican to exorcise the demon, it proves to be an ancient satanic force more powerful than they imagined.
Based on an original story by Christopher Borrelli and Chris Morgan, the screenplay was written by Borrelli, with revisions by Michael C. Martin, and Mark Neveldine. The Vatican Tapes will be directed by Neveldine (Ghost Rider Spirit of Vengeance, Crank), and will be produced by Lakeshore's Tom Rosenberg and Gary Lucchesi along with Chris Cowles.
Lakeshore previously achieved box office success in the horror/thriller genre with The Exorcism of Emily Rose, which grossed over $75 million domestically. Upcoming Lakeshore releases include: I, Frankenstein with Aaron Eckhart, produced in conjunction with Lionsgate and Hopscotch Pictures, which Lionsgate will release in January 2014, and Walk of Shame, starring Elizabeth Banks and James Marsden, which will be released in September 2013.
The Vatican Tapes comes to theaters February 27th, 2015 and stars Michael Peña, Djimon Hounsou, Dougray Scott, Kathleen Robertson, Peter Andersson, Olivia Dudley, John Patrick Amedori. The film is directed by Mark Neveldine.
