MTV has learned that Sex and the City Emmy-award winning executive producer, Michael Patrick King, will direct the long-awaited big-screen adaptation of the popular HBO series. The movie will mark his big screen debut.

"Michael Patrick King was kind of the creative force behind that show, [and] he's going to be writing and directing the movie," series regular Mario Cantone enthused. "I've known him for 24 years. He was always very brilliant. I think he's one of the best writers and directors in television. With him at the helm, it should be damn good."

The movie is tentatively scheduled to start filming this fall and Cantone revealed that none of the stars have yet to sign on. "They called me about my availability, but nothing's negotiated," he confessed. "Hopefully if all the negotiations go well, it will happen in the fall. HBO's just gotta give everybody what they want. It better get done cause I want to do it."

Cantone told MTV that his character, Anthony Marantino, plays a major role in the eagerly-awaited flick.
