Michael Keaton has signed on to play the primary villain Raymond Sellars in MGM's RoboCop remake. Hugh Laurie was in talks to play the OmniCorp CEO in June, before negotiations broke down last week. Here's what director José Padilha had to say about the latest addition to his cast.
Michael Keaton replaces Hugh Laurie as RoboCop's villain
"Michael is the final addition to the amazing cast we have assembled for this film and it is so great to have the last puzzle piece in place. It is thrilling that everything has come together to bring this innovative new vision of RoboCop to life. We've got a great script, a great cast, some killer ED-209's and I can't wait to get Alex Murphy back on the streets."
Joel Kinnaman stars as the Detroit cop Alex Murphy, who is resurrected by OmniCorp and turned into the half-man half-machine crime fighter. Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, and Jackie Earle Haley also star.
Joshua Zetumer wrote the screenplay, with production scheduled to begin next month.
RoboCop comes to theaters February 7th, 2014 and stars Joel Kinnaman, Gary Oldman, Samuel L. Jackson, Abbie Cornish, Jackie Earle Haley, Michael Keaton, Jay Baruchel, Michael K. Williams. The film is directed by José Padilha.
