Late singer Michael Jackson's final performance hit theaters last night, and the numbers are in. According to Variety, Michael Jackson's This Is It took in $2.2 million in Tuesday night shows, a record showing for a Tuesday in October.

The studio said that Wednesday screenings have already surpassed the $2.2 million earned from last night, since the film opened worldwide at 9 PM PST last night. The studio didn't have an international box office figure, but said the film was doing just as well in the rest of the world.

Michael Jackson's This Is It opens in over 3,500 theaters nationwide today, and in thousands of additional theaters in international markets.
