Michael Davis Heads to Outland

Shoot 'Em Up director Michael Davis has signed on to direct Outland, a remake of the 1981 Sean Connery sci-fier for Warner Bros. and Hollywood Gang Prods.

According to Variety, Chad St. John will pen the drama, which revolves around a police marshal stationed at a remote mining colony on Jupiter's moon Io, where he uncovers a murderous conspiracy threatening the entire Outland with collapse.

"We loved the original sci-fi film with Sean Connery," Nunnari said. "At its core, Outland is a version of High Noon in outer space, as two courageous people take a stand against a gang of ruthless conspirators at the highest level."

No production date has been set.

Does anybody have any favorite movie that they WOULD like to see remade. Something that's warranted. Not just for the sake of doing it. Mine is Danation Alley. The special effects were limited. It was a TV movie after all. I think that could do with a remake.

Fallen, Everything will come around. Maybe in our lifetime.

I don't want to be the devil's advocate, but I would love to see a remake of Damnation Alley, one of Jackie Earle Haley's first movies. The movie version, not the book. The book sucked. That was the movie that featured the awesome battle Winnebago like Landmaster.

Crap. Remakes and adaptions every 1 of 4 movies made these past few years. Original is a dying genre and should be genre in itself.

I actually liked the original, about a lone sheriff in a corrupt western town in pace. I always thought Peter Boyle was like Boss Hogg in space in that.

This could use a remake, but I agree it's getting out of hand! I lost it when I read the Dirty Dancing news. Still Jonesin' about Robocop though. Don't worry ComradeHenson, maybe they'll make this "shiny" for you.

    WTF?

Also, when you do Space Western, don't treat it as a Western in Space, where the setting has nothing to do with the story and it could just as easily take place underwater or in a different dimension and be exactly the same movie. The setting has to be important to the story at least marginally, like in Firefly (Probably the BEST modern Space Western).
