Michael Crichton Books Get Publishing Dates

HarperCollins will release two new novels written by the late author Michael Crichton that were discovered in his files by his assistant, which are up for grabs as adaptations. Crichton was behind the hit Jurassic Park.

According to Variety, the action adventure "Pirate Latitudes," set in Jamaica in 1665, hits store shelves Nov. 24, while a yet-to-be-titled technological thriller will bow late next year.

"Pirate Latitudes" was written before Crichton's death last year and discovered in his files by an assistant, while the untitled book will be completed based on the writer's notes. An author has not yet been hired to finish that work.

"Latitudes," which HarperCollins plans to back with a first printing of 1 million copies, revolves around plans by a notorious pirate named Hunter and the governor of Jamaica and to raid a Spanish galleon filled with treasure.

Crichton died of cancer last year at 66.

LEO, I don't get what you mean, man.

Crichton wrote notes for the untitled book and then died. No one waited for him to die so they could write his book, dude! :P A secretary found them AFTER he died! Come on, come on. :P

It's just like Robert Jordon. He left notes for the last Wheel of Time book, and his wife has asked Brandon Sanderson to finish it.

Also there's Charlotte Bront&#235, the author of Jane Eyre. She wrote 20 pages of another book called Emma Brown, with notes and then died, which was finished later by Clare Boylan.

No one would have waited for Crichton to die to write the untitled book because HE WOULD HAVE WRITTEN IT HIMSELF, if he hadn't died. See what I mean? This is a perfect example of Ghost Writing.

This sounds bloody exciting and all, but I have one problem...

"the untitled book will be completed based on the writer's notes?" As in someone ELSE is going to finish writing it? And they waited until AFTER that creative genious, Michael Crichton, DIED? Why? So they wouldn't have to pay him royalties or something?

I am very confused here. I want to see the movie because I am a die-hard fan of Crichton's glorious works, but this sounds fishy to me...
