Michael Bay will return to direct Transformers 4
"Michael is going to direct it, and it will be in the summer of 2014. He's a cool customer. He's excited and I think the challenge there is we really are going to do a reboot. What that's going to be, we don't even know yet."
The producer also shot down rumors that Jason Statham is being eyed to star in Transformers 4, and clarified what he meant by a "reboot."
"It's a hybrid. I'm not involved with (The Amazing) Spider-Man, but what I perceive Spider-Man to be is a redoing of the whole thing. This is not. It's an evolution. There's still a continuity that's going on, and yet, there will be a lot of new cast members. Whether there's anybody from the first cast, we don't even know yet, but the truth is, it's going to be a whole new story. The characters that will certainly come along will be Optimus and Bumblebee, I'm sure."
There hasn't been a screenwriter officially attached for Transformers 4 yet.
Transformers 4 comes to theaters June 27th, 2014 and stars Mark Wahlberg, Nicola Peltz, Jack Reynor, Stanley Tucci, Kelsey Grammer, Sophia Myles. The film is directed by Michael Bay.

Either get Michael Bay a group of actual writers who know movies and Transformers, or do the right thing and just get rid of Michael Bay and make an actually Transformers movie! Who ever the director is should be forced to take notes from "Transformers The Movie" from 1986. Get a good idea what Transformers actually is and what to do to make things go right! Oh yeah, it should be a reboot because even though I was at opening night for each one of the three films, they need to not continue that story. So please stop Michael Bay before he does something stupid!

@Tamas-Kovacs I'm sure that the way he direct these movies, he knows to follow the story/plot of the script for these movies. If he didn't then i'm sure someone else would be taking his place instead, by request of the movie studio.

Noooo! We don't want another brainless/braindead MB flick with no viable plot whatsoever. Substance people, substance! Mr. Bay knows how to shoot action, but I'm afraid he has a thing or two to learn about storytelling.

What are you talking about ? Optimus Prime doesn't die. He was brought back at the end of Transformers 2, after being killed by the Decepticons.

@rome84 Do you think that's what they'll do with Transformers 4 ? I don't see why they would do that though, considering that the first three movies have actors and actresses starring in them.

While this is highly disappointing, there may still be a sliver of hope is Spielberg takes a more active role as a producer, and Kruger doesn't touch the script with a 50ft pole. Make it a hundred. F*ck, make it a thousand for all the good it will do, since the likelihood of either of these events happening isn't high. *sigh*

Hooray! Now we get to see more sex jokes, racism, sexism, foul-mouthed robots, sex items-I mean women, dogs in heat, and boys' pheromone levels indicating...you know...
Ya happy, America?!

I think the transformers franchise was one of the best outhere except for the last part cause that blonde chick played really bad. I think Bay realized that and the transformers is going back to the roots , that means cybertron . I wish that these movies would have no humans involved . Anyway glad to hear that bay's back i really like he's movies .

@paifa Yeah, hopefully he does how to make a good story for Transformers 4.

The only reason they're calling it a "reboot" is because Shia LaBeauf had the dignity to walk away from this franchise. Other than that it's gonna be exactly the same as usual.

You can't reboot something with the same director.

I couldn't possibly say or agree about the reboot of the Transformers 4, unless if Michael Bay knows how to make a good story for this film.

",it's going to be a whole new story."
Yeah, no sh*t Bay! Seeing as how you f*cking screwed the four biggest Decepticons over! /endrant
Seriously though, I'm glad there'll be another. Just please Bay... PLEASE get a better Story. And don't screw any big/important/heavyweight 'Bots over this time!

This is just ridiculous, why am I not surprised? Atleast it isn't being rushed, 2 years should be plenty of time to put a decent film together given the circ*mstances.... Would have been nice to see a new director though.

Why is everyone so mad? I personally think this is great, The transformers movies or great fun, sure they aren't the best movies by far, but they entertain their audience. And isn't that what movies are made to do, is entertain? Micheal Bay is a good director for these, but I agree he could lessen up on the explosions every now and again. As far as it being a reboot, that would piss me off, hopefully they mean just a continuation of the franchise just in a different time or seomthing

Alright Mr. Bonaventura, why don't we cut a deal?
We'll all pay you the price of an IMAX 3D ticket for NOT letting Bay direct this, that way you both get your damn money and cut the losses, but in exchange you still produce a good Transformers reboot with a decent director, and we'll pay you again for seeing that one.
You make money, we lose money, it's a fine deal if you ask me, sir.

Transformers has MANY directions to go with. I;d rather the next movie be based on the current video games: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron

I was really hoping someone else would get a crack at Transformers after #3... He could have stayed on for the visuals and anything to do with that area, but someone else handling the directing and story.... sigh.
