With the appointment of Parent, MGM will enter its new phase of evolution by focusing on its major movie franchises highlighted by James Bond and Pink Panther sequels, The Hobbit, The Thomas Crown Affair 2, The Outer Limits, RoboCop, Death Wish and Fame, among others.
Most of these projects were already known, but this is the first we've heard about a possible return of Robocop.
Robocop is Officer Alex Murphy, who is rebuilt as the cyborg RoboCop after being shot and left for dead by a vicious gang of criminals. Murphy is pronounced dead, but is then rebuilt as a cyborg who has the hardware of a robot but the instincts of a police officer.
The first Robocop film spawned two sequel films, as well as two animated television series and one live-action series. However the character has not had any new appearance on film or television since the late 1990s.

I don't know if a remake is neccessary...maybe sequels would be the way to go...wake Robocop from his sleep and dust him off for some new action or something....but just no re-makes...

No matter how long ago robocop was made, apply its story basis to modern society... seems a little too real... what about back in the 90's where the government in Chicago shut down the villas and forced its residents out to help create a better neighbourhood for its residents and also crush crime... of course crime still existed there... (Robocop 3)
Then we talk about powersuits in the army, the way major corperations control different parts of society, the basis of the suns state, think about all the things in robocop (1+3 especially) Definitely if there is a remake to be reworked, the people in charge need to follow closely to the themes of the original, keep alot of the basis ect.... hell, if they kept the original soundtrack and moved into a more up market instrumental (instead of the slight electronica used in the original)... maybe re-include some of the deleted scenes... the only problem there is, is that alot of the peter wheller stuff wont be forgotton by alot of fans... from his robocop attitude to the scene where he gets blown to bits... alot of the casting needs very important detail... Oh and i hope they give us a CGI ED201 :P
Hopefully they dont get rid of the news articles, but do update them a little for modern society... lets say Iranian War with America Possibility? Super suited soldiers (powersuits in the army).... things that wont suprise us, but still inject the 'whatif' that we had when viewing the original film.
Play carefully, but im looking forward to it alot.

An update of Robocop in today's school and business massacre zeitgeist makes sense. Better cpu brain, weaponry and car(they'll probably use those new Dodge Chargers)...remember how an 80's Ford Taurus was used as the cop cars because of their "futuristic" styling!
Remakes of classics are here to stay because their brand/name recognition hedges some of the huge risks that movies are to make and market.
