Metallica to embark on 3D feature film
It is not known what type of feature film the band is planning. It could be anything from a Tommy-inspired rock opera, to a drama, to a documentary, to a 3D concert film, which has become a popular genre amongst best selling musicians. Anything is fair game at this point.
Metallica first ventured into the world of filmmaking by generously contributing most of the music to the West Memphis Three documentary Paradise Lost: The Child Murders at Robin Hood Hills, which helped the film find its audience, and got word out about the infamous murder trial. Then, in 2004, the band put its own personal drama in front of cameras for the groundbreaking documentary Metallica: Some Kind of Monster.
Its doubtful that Metallica would be engaging in a follow-up to their own woes and strife as a struggling multi-million dollar outfit. No one wants to see Dave Mustaine cry in 3D.
For now, we will just have to wait and see what the band is cooking up. The sky seems to be the limit.

@mr-jellyfish Perhaps you should read the article. It is clearly stated what Metallica is.

The guy pointing at the camera kind of looks like Karl Pilkington... Maybe this is a film about his alter ego?
OK, I don't know what Metallica is.

@highcaliberinc Okay, thanks for the info on Mustaine. I have not seen all of Some Kind of Monster, so I wasn't sure if Orange was telling a truth of the doc*mentary, or just showing how how little he knew of the band.

@ejk1 -Completely agree with everything you said word for word.. and Mustaine was in SomeKindofMonster but only briefly. It was during some sit down with him and Lars as part of the therapy sessions Metallica was going through.

"Sell out" is the last thing Metallica is, except when it comes to arena's, and then yeah they sell out every gig! I wish they would join back up with Mustaine though, that would be one Hell of a show, with him back on board, 3D or not!

I guess Ill never understand the term sell out. When a band has success, becomes bigger than themselves and breaks themselves down to rebuild everything (like in Some Kind of Monster) you see what they are, and what they needed to do to become relevant again, how is that a failure in any way? Experimentation and creative growth are not sell out actions. I think Death Magnetic has more likeable ttracks than the black album. Ive been a Metallica fan for 20+ years. I wish em the best of luck on this pursuit.

Was Mustaine in Some Kind of Monster, even though he was kicked out of Metallica close to thirty years ago?
@Supes1976 Yeah, because after years of exactly the same thing, they dared to "sell-out" and experiment with their music. And shame on them for trying to reach a broader audience :P
Seriously though, Metallica has earned the right to do whatever the hell they want.

Even though Metallica is my favorite band, Some Kind of Monster was a horrible movie, as was the album it came from. There last album, Death Magnetic, was actually pretty good. I hope its a concert film, anything else would probably suck.

What a shame! Metallica completely sold themselves out after the Black Album. They still have TONS of fans around the world, but their music sucks now. They sound like a completely different band. In fact, I wouldn't even consider them a "metal" band anymore.
