Mel Gibson's Apocalypto Tops The Box Office
The Holiday debuted with $13.5 million; the romantic comedy from Nancy Meyers stars Cameron Diaz, Jude Law, Kate Winslet, and Jack Black. Kate and Cameron switch houses and continents in the film.
Happy Feet finally came down from the top spot after three weeks. The Warner Bros. animated comedy danced its way to third place and $12.7 million over the weekend; that takes the four week total to $137.7 million.
Daniel Craig as James Bond in Casino Royale. In fourth place, the 21st film in the British spy series made $8.8 million; in four weeks, the total is $128.8 million. It's on its way to becoming the highest grossing Bond film yet.
In fifth, Leonardo DiCaprio and Djimon Hounsou search for the Blood Diamond; it made $8.5 million. The gritty action flick focuses on the turmoil in the 1990's Africa, and the conflict diamond industry.
Warner's kids film, Unaccompanied Minors made it to sixth place debuting with $6.2 million. Co-starring Wilmer Valderrama and Lewis Black, five kids (Tyler James Williams, Dyllan Christopher, Gina Mantegna, Quinn Shephard, and Brett Kelly) take over the airport when it's shut down due to a snow storm.
Déjà Vu dropped from third to seventh place; the Denzel Washington action film brought in $6 million for a three week total of $53 million.
The Nativity Story also fell four spots to eighth with $5.5 million. That brings the film to a two week total of $15.7 million.
The comedy, Deck the Halls, starring Danny DeVito, Matthew Broderick, Kristin Davis, and Kristin Chenoweth finished in ninth place. It brought in $3.9 million for a three week $30 million total.
And bringing up the rear, The Santa Clause 3: The Escape Clause came in tenth place with $3.3 million. That makes it $77.2 million in six weeks.
Apocalypto was released December 8th, 2006 and stars Rudy Youngblood, Dalia Hernández, Jonathan Brewer, Morris Birdyellowhead, Carlos Emilio Báez, Amilcar Ramírez, Israel Contreras, Israel Ríos. The film is directed by Mel Gibson.
