Matt Reeves has been hired to direct The Passage for Fox 2000, which has been in development since 2007. The screenplay by John Logan, for which Matt Reeves will be supervising a re-write, is based on the bestselling novel of the same name by Justin Cronin.

The Passage follows what happens when a scientific experiment goes wrong, creating a horde of blood-hungry vampires set on destroying the world. It begins with a group of terminally ill cancer patients being treated with South African bat bites. At first, this seems like the perfect cure, but it soon turns out that this treatment is breeding an unstoppable army of indestructible bloodsuckers who can also read minds. Before long, they set out to infect the entire populace of the world.

It was also recently announced that Matt Reeves will be directing an adaptation of the Ray Nelson short story 8 O'Clock in the Morning, which was used as the basis for John Carpenter's 1988 cult classic They Live.

It isn't clear which project will begin production first. The Passage has the upper hand with its completed screenplay, which will get another draft from an as-yet unhired writer before cameras roll.

The Passage comes to theaters in 2012. The film is directed by Matt Reeves.

It was a truly awesome, epic book and I think it will make a awesome movie!! Don't be misled by the fact that the creatures have some vampire like behavior. They come off more like rabid but intelligent animals rather than vampires.

    Vampires? Pass

Matt Reeves? Pass on his career. Even if he lands an X-men film or the Halo movie, I wouldn't see it. F*ck him.
