Matt Damon Will Not Return for Bourne 4

Australia's The Daily Telegraph reports from Cannes that Matt Damon has announced that the next Bourne movie, The Bourne Ultimatum, would be his last turn as the super-spy assassin, despite the franchise earning hundreds of millions of dollars around the world.

At a press conference promoting his next film, Ocean's Thirteen, Damon said "The Bourne thing I'm definitely done with."

The Oscar-winner added, though, that Bourne character may well live on, played by another actor.

The third film in the franchise, The Bourne Ultimatum, part of the series of best-selling action novels by Robert Ludlum about a renegade and lethal former US secret agent, will be released on August 3rd.

The Bourne Ultimatum was released August 3rd, 2007 and stars Matt Damon, Julia Stiles, David Strathairn, Scott Glenn, Paddy Considine, Édgar Ramírez, Albert Finney, Joan Allen. The film is directed by Paul Greengrass.

    I bet Matt Damon will return for Bourne #4. It is a chance to reach James Bond-like status. If the sequels are spaced out enough, like the Bond films, Damon can work on other movies just as he has done so far. Obviously there is a storyline involving Bourne/Webb and Parsons that can be developed, not to mention Webb's past. From the first time I saw Bourne Ultimatum in the theater, I felt there were a number of unanswered questions, begging for a 4th installment. It will not be the same if Damon doesn't return. If he doesn't, I doubt Julia Stiles will either.

    he gotta come back for Bourne 4, theres still some unanswered questions, like the relationship he has with Nikki Parsons...it won't be the same w/out him playing the character

    I just got done watching Bourne Ultimatum and WOW what a great movie, I cant imagine anyone else playing Bourne, and hope Matt Damon will reconsider playing the part, Thats the only way I or my girlfriend would want to see it.

    I cannot picture another actor as Jason Bourne. It wouldn't be the same. My hubby and I had a date and went to the movies to see The Bourne Ultimatum about an hour ago and WE LOVED IT!!! Big surprise right? Seriously, it is definitely as good as the other two and I'd pay to see it again. I can't wait to get a box set of these three - I could watch them over and over... Matt, please reconsider on this... if there is a 4th - you HAVE to play Jason Bourne again. You MAKE the movie!

    Matt you will regret it! This has gotten more famous, which is why it is being continued. You are Jason Bourne! I can't imagine anyone else playing this role. You have talent, you have succeeded and gotten to the top! This is what made you more famous and stronger name. Go with your instincts, not what others tell you.

    Please Matt! Reconsider. It is rare to find a series, let alone a single movie with such intelligent and thrilling writing, amazing directing and great acting paired with brilliant action and character development. C'mon Matt this is your defining role, don't abandon it, enjoy it! This series should not end at 3 at least go to 4. The director, writer and all of the producers want to continue, don't be the one to end it Matt! Don't be that guy!

    If Matt agreed to do the films in the beginning than he should have known how many films there were to be made. I agree with Jmt2cu about the 007 movies. I watch them but not knowing who the new James Bond is or will be. I think Matt should re-think this role and position he is saying currently. Who knows, maybe Bourne Ultimatum will be a blockbuster, maybe not. Can't we start a petition online and get Matt to see the responses and get him to finish the Jason Bourne character he started? I can't think of to many actors that would be as good as Matt Damon with this role.

    I am very disappointed that Matt is not going to continue being Jason Bourne. That will make these movies just like 007 and I really can't stand 007 because 007 is never the same person. I will most likely not see the 4th one in the series of movies if he will not be returning.

    I never really got the attraction to Matt Damon in this role... I mean, I like my secret agents to look like they could kill someone with their bare hands and Damon, well... he's a little fella that I could snap like a twig. I think I'll give the Bourne Fallacy... sorry Ultimatum... a frikken big miss. But then again... Julia Stiles is in it... hmmmmm.
