At this point, no plot details have been revealed for Neill Blomkamp's directorial follow-up to District 9 titled Elysium. It is rumored to take place on another planet 100 years into the future. Matt Damon and Sharlto Copley are signed to star. And Jodie Foster has been attached to the project in the press, though she came out earlier this month to say she isn't confirmed for Elysium at this time.

Matt Damon has offered a bit more information on the anticipated, yet highly secretive sci-fi thriller, revealing that Neill Blomkamp is building a whole new world for Elysium. The actor seems quite excited about coming onto the project.

"I've never done anything quite like this and I kind of responded to what's out there and what's in and what's good. The movie is going to be good, he showed me basically the entire world which he's going to build and it's really, really exciting. And I can't wait!"

Elysium is set to start shooting later in the year.

Elysium comes to theaters March 1st, 2013 and stars Sharlto Copley, Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Wagner Moura, William Fichtner, Alice Braga, Diego Luna. The film is directed by Neill Blomkamp.

@narrator Nothing wrong with stating again your excitement. We know you're not obnoxious about such things.

What I love about the science fiction genre is the sky's not the limit, anything and everything is possible. Surrounded by SciFi video games, movies, shows, books growing up, its my favorite genre. As technology progresses, we'll get cooler and more mind blowing films from them, and I can't wait, man :D

It's pointless to reiterate my excitement for this film, seeing as how most of you posted my exact thoughts, but I'll say it anyways; pretty stoked for this film.

Hey, it's just my feelings on the guy. Of course I'd be supportive if he did do more SciFi, it's just not a label I'm quick to give him, though.

@daveactor7 If you mean by Inception (and somewhat Prestige), sure. But Jones and Blomkamp are more authentically dipping into the genre in my opinion. When I think of science fiction, I think of other worldly beings and/or far into the future type stuff (like Jones' Moon, Blomkamp's D9).

Inception is as close to SciFi as Nolan has gotten, and it was quite good, great even, but I don't think that'll really be his market. He's more of a drama/comic book guy for now to me.

@dan1...i know, who'd a thunk that David Bowie's son would be a great Sci-Fi director...but then again his father is David Bowie, Mr. Ziggy Stardust himself :D

This sounds like it has a lot of promise. Jackson was going to give the Hobbit to this man and they were considering him for Halo. I want to see what he can do with a real budget.

agree @ejk1 & @insertusernamehere. Adding someone like Damon to the team of Blomkcamp and Copley can only be a good sign... Maybe this time they won't have to sell the producer's name as top billing the way they did Peter Jackson's for D9.
