In 1982 John Carpenter made a version of The Thing starring Kurt Russell. The film was a contemporary remake of 1951's The Thing From Another World. That version was directed by Howard Hawks. All the films are derived from a 1938 short story, "Who Goes There?" that was published by Astounding Magazine.
Matthijs Van Heijningen is going to direct this movie from a screenplay by Ronald D. Moore and Eric Heisserer.
Winstead will be playing a Ph.D. candidate who comes aboard a Norwegian research team in Antarctica after it discovers an alien ship in the ice. A trapped organism gets freed and engages in a series of attacks. Winstead is forced to team with a mercenary helicopter pilot (Edgerton) to contain the rampage.
The movie will start shooting March 15 in Toronto.
The Thing was released October 14th, 2011 and stars Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Joel Edgerton, Ulrich Thomsen, Eric Christian Olsen, Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje, Paul Braunstein, Trond Espen Seim, Kim Bubbs. The film is directed by Matthijs van Heijningen Jr..

The story plainly states that this is going to be a prequel about the original norwegian team that discovered the alien. Unfortunatly we already know how that ended...was winsteads character the other person in the helicopter that got blown up? heres to hoping they got something up thier sleeves and they use more practical effects (which made the original so memorable) and less CGI.

I don't remember a women in the remake (maybe in the first) and it did fine, this means there's going to be some sex scene thats unnecessary, or romance bullsh*t, and if its a prequel then all these people should be Norwegian and at the first camp, then I can believe that and would accept that, but from what I read this is just a remake of the remake, not a prequel

Why? Carpenter's was a masterpiece of sci-fi horror. This will definitely be one of those movies in the long list of remakes that just was not worth it...

hmmm
whats Mary gonna do in this movie?
one thing Id like to see them do with the alien is have it disguise itself as an enticing woman then all of a sudden during a seduction reveal itself
thatd be scary as hell!
dying at the mercy of pleasure

I'm getting tired of all these reboots, but hopefully the writing team of Moore and Heisserer can do it justice. John Carpenter's version was awesome in its day and still is to this day, and will be hard to beat.
