Marvel's The Avengers Returns to Theaters August 31st with the Promise of New Footage!

Labor Day weekend is upon us, and to celebrate, Walt Disney Pictures and Marvel Studios is bringing back the biggest movie of the summer to help drag the curtain closed on this past season at the box office.

Marvel's The Avengers will be back on the big screen August 31st through September 6th.

Playing in 1705 theaters across the country for this one week encore, Marvel Studios announced the film's return on their Facebook page. There, they left this message.

Marvel's The Avengers Labor Day Weekend Screening Thanos
"Don't forget to stay through the credits..."

It's possible that some new footage has been shot for this special return to theaters. It may be more with Thanos, though some are speculating that we may even get our first glimpse at Guardians of the Galaxy in the (CGI) flesh.

Marvel is playing quite coy though, so it's probably nothing more than an extended scene of the gang eating Schwarma and experiencing its after effects on the stomach.

Whatever it is, the ruse is sure to get some of you back in theaters this weekend. So what if the Marvel's The Avengers Blu-ray is just a few short weeks away from hitting shelves on September 25th? Nothing beats Marvel's The Avengers in 3D on the big screen!

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

@youngrizo I don't remember ever seeing Disney do this, with a movie that was released 3 months prior to the current month that we're in, or with any other Disney movie during any time of the year.

This is clearly a Disney move. I'm not getting mad at Marvel for something the suits at the top decided.

I think it's a ploy to get it higher in the all time grossing list...PLUS just make us comic book fans something to do Labor day weekend. I'll be there with hopes of new footage. If not oh well got to see the best movie of 2012 again on the big screen before bluray!

when i read the headline i thought it meant part2 comes to theaters next aug, like aug. 31th 2013.

As far as the new footage.. Who the hell didnt see this coming?
Like Avatar. There will prob be like 3 or 4 diff versions of it. And then there will be another version in time for part2, just watch.

@thedude1 I totally agree, I also doubt any "new" footage is going to be so significant that it couldn't wait for the dvd. Seems like marvel just wants to pinch a few more dollars.

@gallagher Does the fact that The Avengers is coming back to theaters in August 31st with new footage, mean that The Avengers will be released to Blu-ray on a later date after September 25th with more footage?

Lame. This brings the phrase, "shameless money grab," to a whole 'nother level.

After seeing this movie three times already in theaters I am frankly bored of it. And the cash grabbing here by the studio does not help any either.
