Marvel's The Avengers May Be Developed as a TV Series for ABC

Marvel's The Avengers may assemble for the small screen
Marvel's The Avengers has truly conquered the box office this summer, amassing a whopping $615 million at the domestic box office so far. Marvel Studios is also looking to possibly take this superhero team to the small screen, with an Avengers-themed TV show for ABC.

The project is in very early stages at this point, with only, "a kernel of an idea" so far. It is said that there wouldn't be a direct connection between the show and director Joss Whedon's blockbuster. While the series would be set in the same Marvel universe, and feature some of the same themes, it may not feature these superhero characters.

The Avengers can also be seen in animated form on Disney XD's The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, and the upcoming Avengers Assemble.

Marvel Studios is also planning on making The Avengers 2 in 2015, after they make the stand-alone sequels Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, and Captain America: The Winter Soldier.

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

@thesymbiote I bet that's what they're doing. Another site ran a similar story to this one today, but said the plan was to do essentially a crime procedural in the universe of The Avengers. They could easily have lower-level SHIELD operatives solving cases in a similar vein as Fringe. And cameos or references to the characters in the Avengers A-list (even references to Nick Fury being their boss) would be an easy way to tie this to that world. Hell, Cobie Smulders could easily make an appearance here and there. She's pretty much working solely in TV already.

What I would like to see is a SHIELD tv series with the main characters being shield agents, with the less popular heroes guest starring like Luke Cage, and maybe they could slowly build up to the creation of Vision so he could be in Avengers 3.

this is disney idea right why in the hell would they put a great success franchise to the small screen and even though, it made a huge hit at the box office but hey it might be good if they do it right then i'm o k with it

I still don't like the Hulk series either... they should do another Hulk movie and get it done 100% right!

I think Disney is getting over its head over the whole marvel shows, i'm not saying it's bad and with the success of the Avengers movie destroyed the box office in the entire month of may and june. Just saying that we should see how the Hulk tv series will play, and how good it'll be.

@shuabert And your point is well taken. They could even bring in members of my favorite Avengers, the Great Lakes Avengers...or whatever they call themselves now.

It would make for a comical episode at any rate.

@skywise Yes, but they could easily have Renner in the pilot to set up the team and then not have him in the rest of the show. My point was that it would be an easy way to bring in a team of minor characters whom they would probably not use in an Avengers movie.

no something this amazing does not need to be in the TV with crappy special effects IT belongs in the big screen only and on blu ray dvd

I won't watch it if it won't have Iron Man, Thor, Hulk or Captain America.

The only thing I'm waiting for is an Avengers X-men Spiderman team up or at least a reference. Like Nick Fury handing a folder to someone with papers that mention mutants or Professor Xavier. Or Captain America walking in on Nick Fury while he's on the phone with a shield agent who's "keeping a close eye" on a "certain" teenager in high school.

also it is unrealistic to think that every Avengers character is big enough to support a movie, the ones i listed in the previous post are perfect examples of characters that couldn't hold a movie but as a cast of heroes in a tv show would work.

just think about this for a sec. one of the most requested villains for a x-men film is apocalypse. but u will never see him cuz he is too unbelievable and would take too much time to explain properly. but with a show those types of villains and ideas can be explained throughout a season.

again this is all if it is done right and made well, it could very easily be made by sh*tty ppl, but i trust marvel and i think they will get it right.

Until I see footage that makes me say otherwise, I'm on board with this idea.

I think all these nay sayers are forgetting how huge the Avengers cast is (i mean comics not movie) i mean the show could be an easy way to include Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Ms. Marvel, Wonder Man, Tigra, Valkyrie, Vision. There are soooo many characters that is such a small amount. And if there are break out characters they can get their own film. Plus if this is tying into movie universe then there could be guest appearances from the big actors from the movie.

And we already know the next movie is going to focus on Thanos, so the show could have an opening season about Ultron, or Kang the Conqueror, or the Hood and his gang or the Masters of Evil, cuz a movie wouldn't give enough time to sufficiently build those last two as real threats.

this has real potential and could be awesome. i say trust Marvel they know what they are doing and haven't failed yet. This could be really good. plus they could have a season build up to the 3rd avengers movie, or Civil War. man i have a lot of ideas for this....

the avengers NO if they are itching for a super hero team for TV i think alpha flight would be more suited ..or try another go at power pack...hell with supernatural being as popular as it is they could do were wolf by night..so manythey could use instead of screwing up an existing franchise

    10 months agoby @sunriderFlag

  29. skywise

So they are toying with making an Avengers movie without any of the good Avengers?

Well there is always Hercules, Black Knight and Quicksilver......
