Marvel Entertainment Creates Writer's Group

According to Variety, Marvel Entertainment is putting together a group of writers to bring various projects that they own to life.

The plan is for this writer's group to follow in the footsteps of the fellowship program the Walt Disney Co. has been running since 1990. This program picks a dozen writers to ply their craft with executives to develop content for ABC, the Disney Channel and ABC Family.

Marvel plans to tap 5 writers a year to write specific projects. The company will tell the writer's what pitches it wants to make and these "could involve certain plot points for movies already in development or characters it would like to see in its future film slate."

Getting this writing think tank together will help launch lesser-known properties, such as Black Panther, Cable and Doctor Strange among others.

Apparently, Marvel got very encouraged when the lesser known Iron Man pulled in $582 million worldwide.

Marvel will pay the writers a salary for the year. The company will then own anything that the writer's put together during that time. They can also renew the writer's contract if they wish.

It has also been said that writers like Justin Theroux, Mark Protosevich, Christopher Markus, Stephen McFeely and Zak Penn, who are at present working on Iron Man 2, Thor, The First Avenger: Captain America and The Avengers are not going to be part of Marvel's new writing unit.

This is for twisted smile, cause he acted like a little bitch and deleted me without giving me a chance to respond, the internet equivalent of plugging your ears and screaming "Twinkle, Twinkle":

Apparently I can't say this enough: "I'm not trying to attack you."

You can't compare a crappy existing film (The Crow 2) to a film that hasn't been made yet (Batman sequel (MAYBE with the Joker). And I never said that remakes or sequels are automatically all insults, you are putting words in my mouth and assuming my viewpoint. BAD sequels and remakes ARE insults, as in the case of The Crow 2. NEither did I make any reference to crappy sequels/remakes destroying the spirit of the original. Again, you're projecting someone else's opinion on to me without evidence.

You just want me to stop telling you that you're wrong. Fine. Stop being wrong.

the club, as much as I would love studios to ignore the content of Spider-Man 3 and X3, it won't happen. Those f*ck-ups are permanent.

I'd like to see a Toxic Avengers movie too, but I highly doubt it will ever happen in my lifetime, and not that it's a big deal it'd just be a bonus to my childhood lol.

Btw, I have a prediction, DC (not Marvel of course) will remake Swamp Thing and it will be awesome...so I hope. I don't know why, but I liked the old movies and bad guys in the cartoons when I was a kid.

Venom never did die, it was how they did it. He leaps in and saves Venom just seconds before the explosion. I wouldn't be surprised that none of the characters died in the Spiderman films.

Cable does have connections to the X-Men since he is the future son of Jean and Cyclops. One they could stop the Phoenix from ever happening if Cable went back in time. He realizes that something went wrong in the time line and he helps to restore the time line. Only way around it. The X-Men never knew that he was from the future in the first place, I still have the comic's.

Doctor Strange would be a good choice to do, but it would need a great director to pull it off and done right.

I've seen Black Panther around in a lot of marvel shows. From Spiderman to X_Men, it's just he doesn't do anything for me.

Now for the Fantastic four, both films were campy but the only thing about both films was it needed a better story line and plot. I swear some writers have no clue on how to write.

I heard about that, but i also heard that Marvel had scrapped the project alrogether, something about how the SFX went comepltely wrong in a test run and that it costs too much, for as they've slated him as a 'lesser-known character'

Wasn't J. Michael Strazynski writing a Silver Surfer spin-off, or has that gone under?

We can probably expect a Deadpool spin-off as a guarantee

The Thunderbolts are a group of "reformed" villains. I doubt it's on Marvel's "to do" list

Also what about Mandrake the Magician?
    Who owns that?

That could be pretty interesting if done right, soz i only expect Vis and probably Comrade to know who Mandrake The Magician is.

But to give an update on who he is, Mandrake is the first superhero ever created he came out 4yrs prior to Superman, whom was created in 1938.
I think Mandrake was created by Lee Falk, the same guy that created 'The Phantom'

Hmmmm, this is quite interesting Cable i much agree with Vis on that, his origin / backstory is really 'kooky.' It would definately need a lot of reimprovising, 2 good writers i can thing of top of the head is the Nolan Bros, because they did a pretty good job of reimprovising the Joker background/origin for TDK.
But could there be a Cable movie without a feature from Deadpool cameo or appearance, because later on in the franchise you had a team up between them.

Venom can't be dead, he could brilliant as a spin-off, i wrote a venom script a while back for a i was bored out of my head project.

Doctor Strange could be really wicked, but i'm quite worried they try taking it in a too comical/campy way like Killerman stated.
Also note to the Comrade, Guillermo Del Toro stated a while ago that he dropped Doctor Strange, he was meant to carry on with it after Hellboy, but then another project got in the way and then another, then Hellboy 2 and now Hobbit 1 & 2 and everything else on his schedule to 2016 or 2018 something like that.

Black Panther is a big-fat no no, it has a odd origin story that would be way too campy for a film adaptation unless it modernised. Also i think in my own opinion, people would relate it back to the Black Panther group too much in the 70s/80s

Silver Surfer would be awesome like Portfan said, problem is the film has been in developement hell for god knows how long.

    Never heard of Thunderbolts...:(
The Sentry sounds really interesting, i'm going to have to check that one out, So thanks for that recommendation, Vis

    Now what about Deadpool Spin-off?
    also
Midnight Sons alla Morbius & Werewolf At Night

Cable really came out of nowhere to me...it could be a cool movie, but his origin tale is little kooky. It would take a good director to flesh out the good points and make a decent movie.

Ya know what I want?...The Sentry. A look at the mental break down of a man with god like powers could make for one hell of a movie in the right hands

the only one i don't really care for is Black Panther, but that is just cuz i've never read any of his stuff. its weird to think that some of these characters r well known, i've always been into superheroes even b4 i read comics so to me they r like common knowledge.

does that mean Thor isn't a well known superhero also?

  24. Portfan

I think a silver surfer movie would be cool. You can bring in the Norrin Radd backstory, have Galactus as the villian, and ultimately lead into the possible revamp of the Fantastic Four. Other characters that I'd love to see on the big screen are she-hulk and spider-woman. Ms. Marvel? It'd be nice to have female heroes to watch.
Side note: If you were to make a Cable movie and reference Jean and Scott as his parents you'd have to establish it as in the future. As it is now, Jean is the Phoenix, and dead.

    Sounds good.
And Vis is correct Chad; before any of the movies came out, if you asked me, an "average joe," to name some Marvel characters, I'd hit Spiderman, the Hulk, and maybe Wolverine. That's it. The movies have opened up a new Universe. But I still don't know who the hell Black Panther and Cable are... research time ...

I would love to see a Doctor Strange, but i have a bad feeling that they will make goofy looking, to where it seems that they might put Jim Carrey as Strange. If it's done, i hope it's done by a director who truly understands this guy.
