Martin Scorsese Likes Silence
Scorsese and Graham King's GK Films are talking with Daniel Day-Lewis and Benicio Del Toro to star in the main roles. Also in talks to be in the film is Gael Garcia Bernal. The production is expected to start in late 2009 in New Zealand.
The story is set in the 17th century where Jesuit priests travel to Japan to spread the word of the good book.
The script is based on a novel of the same name by Shusaku Endo. Jay Cocks did the adaptation.
At present the project has no domestic distributor. Graham King will be financing the movie himself.

Good point Killerman, but I think Scorsese is treating this film like any of his others. After all he is Catholic, and has dealt with religious themes, particularly the line between catholicism and guilt, before in his films.
However, this does sound like an award worthy film, and he just might have picked it up to snag another statue.

The Narrator: The Better Man
Martin Scorsese is a genius on film. Some of his movies are slow, but way worth it. The Departed, Gongs of New York, and I loved the Aviator.
Also, as much as I don't like Day-Lewis, he is a good actor, as is Del Toro.

my god killerman u are a small child arent u?
Martin scorsese has won an oscar by making The Departed (which is f*cking awesome by the way!!) if a director wants to make a movie which doesnt involve anything like his/hers older movies, then that's not a problem! Martin scorsese is a legend, just like Clint Eastwood!!

Zany, i believe the Academies will definitely be eying this when it's released. And that's the thing. You see before Scorsese won his award. He seemed like he didn't really care. All he wanted to do was make a good film. Now, most of his movies i didn't enjoy, but you can just tell that all he cared about was expressing himself on film. Now, from how this sounds, Scorsese seems like he's just trying to get his hands on another Oscar without even caring. I can even see him doing this just to be different from his other works, but this is just to far out there. This seems like something Mel Gibson would direct.

I don't want to get in another pointless argument Killerman, but this sounds like a film the Academy would nominate, if done right. Of course, they'd have to get past the Christian element, which Hollywood isn't too fond of.
I think this sounds great.

Why don't you shut the f*ck up. You haven't even SEEN anything about this movie! It's just a tiny synopsis of it and you're already calling it sh*t. Look at the movies YOU like! 'Scream'? Seriously dude? Come on...

Why is that after actors and directors win Academy Awards for a specific category they come back, doing some sh*tty films? Hilary Swank, Pam Grier, Robert Forster and now Scorsese can be added to that list. Just look at this sh*t. Silence..what a load of sh*t.
