Martin Campbell Talks Green Lantern's Special Effects

It seems that one superhero film's director has his work cut out for him, as far as special effects are concerned. Coventry Telegraph is reporting that Green Lantern director Martin Campbell revealed some tidbits on the massive special effects for the film.

"It's daunting," Cambell said. "Just the process, something like 1,300 visual effects shots, it's mind-blowing, quite honestly.

The majority of the effects will be centered on the powers Hal Jordan receives when wearing that legendary green ring.

"It's energised by a battery on the planet of Oa, which taps into the willpower of everyone in the universe. From that ring you can form constructs. So if you got into a fight, you could form a giant fist. Or a fighter plane."

Green Lantern was released June 17th, 2011 and stars Ryan Reynolds, Blake Lively, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Temuera Morrison, Jenna Craig, Jon Tenney, Mike Doyle. The film is directed by Martin Campbell.

Giant fist made of fighter planes.

It's just really hard to make big green glowy forcefield objects not look cheesy.

Yeah, I'm really curious to see how Campbell does with his first big special effects feature. Most of his films didn't require a lot of effects.
