Mark Millar to Develop New Superman Trilogy?

It seems that Mark Millar is throwing his hat in the ring for a whole new set of films with the Man of Steel. G4 talked to Millar, who created the graphic novel Wanted was based on, and he had an interesting remark about another possible series of films for Superman.

"I've had this plan for like 10 years for a big three-picture Superman thing, like a Lord of the Rings epic, starting over from scratch again with a seven-hour Superman story. One to be released each year." Millar said.

Millar said nothing is set in stone yet, but he plans to hear a definitive answer within the next few weeks, and that shooting could possibly begin next summer.

I was going to point out what Vis. did, just for the fact that they're two people. Now, this is an idea that I actually like. I'm not a fan of Superman, and I'm not a fan of Spiderman, but the movies for both I liked, granted Spiderman 3 wasn't the best, but it wasn't bad, and Superman III and Superman IV: The Quest for Peace weren't the best movies either, but they're good, is what I'm getting at. I may not like a certain Superhero, but if the movie's right, I'll enjoy it nonetheless. So for me, this news, is wonderful, kind of.

Everything is aligning for the reboot after the mixed reviews for Returns and the tremendous success of The Dark Knight...this new Superman will be the one everyone's been waiting for. If Miller doesn't get the greenlight, at least fans know that Warner Brothers is looking for a edgier, darker tone.

they want to start from scratch......thats what warner bros should have done in the first f*cking place, instead they got gay brian singer to screw it up like he screwed up X-Men. if they f*ck this up this time around i will never watch another superman movie from warner bros.

Hope that Doomsday comes out in the last one or make the Death Of Superman movie. The idea is great about a reboot and making it into a trilogy like modern.

The casting for Superman Returns was perfect! It's a shame that it had only one really good action scene and the rest of the story sucked. I say keep Brandon Routh and Kevin Spacey!

This has the potential to be something spectacular, yet Miller is only a writer. They need a cast, crew, production team, special effects studio, and director that can deliver such a solid story while at the same time avoiding going over the top. There are vast possibilities for Superman, at the same time there is only so much you can do with the character before it becomes monotonous. Then again, there are things that can be put on the screen that we haven't seen. Uncanny characters can stand for an introduction. There could be one element that is added to the series as well, true adventure. Superman can face real adversity. In the same token, I'm kind of torn by this. I thought Superman Returns wasn't a bad movie. I thought in certain ways it was nostalgic, both of the classic comic books and what Christopher Reeves had achieved in the title role. I thought it did what it set out to do in picking up after Superman II, especially the Dick Donner Cut. It was the first time big blue faced death on the big screen and I was convinced. Brandon Routh was a near perfect replica with a slighter edge than the previous Man of Steel, but he'd done a remarkable job.

That said, I would like to see an edgier Superman if they couldn't find it within themselves to pick up after Returns. It's quite possible they'd written themselves into a corner trying to figure where to go next with the spawn of Kal-el. And the idea of making Superman epic and quite possibly practical is welcomed. Batman Begins breathed in new life to the franchise. The Incredible Hulk was more acceptable than Ang Lee's dramatic farce. I thought Superman Returns made up for both III and IV, but if it is a new franchise they are trying to build then this may be the best idea. Lightening can strike twice in the same place, just ask Christopher Nolan.

There's been a flurry of ideas about Superman at the moment, but the character is stuck in limbo. All talk and no action. It's about time someone made an executive decision and say let's get it done. A rushed movie is obviously not a good idea, but nobody seems to know how to proceed.
