Mark Hamill says main cast is in talks for Star Wars: Episode VII
Now, Luke Skywalker himself, Mark Hamill has stepped forward to confirm that all of the main cast members from the original trilogy are in talks, but no one actor has officially signed on. This includes Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia, Harrison Ford as Han Solo, Billy Dee Williams as Lando Calrissian and Anthony Daniels as C3PO. None of the actors will return, though, if one is left out of the story that is being written right now by Michael Arndt.
They're talking to us. George Lucas wanted to know whether we'd be interested. He did say that if we didn't want to do it, they wouldn't cast another actor in our parts, they would write us out...I can tell you right away that we haven't signed any contracts. We're in the stage where they want us to go in and meet with Michael Arndt, who is the writer, and Kathleen Kennedy, who is going to run Lucasfilm. Both have had meetings set that were postponed on their end, not mine. They're more busy than I am.
Another thing I'd want to make sure of is are we going to have the whole gang back? Is Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford and Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels, everybody that's around from the original [returning]? I want to make sure that everybody's on board here, rather than just one."

Mark Hamill then went onto "sort of" confirm the recent news that this new trilogy, directed by J.J. Abrams, would be based around the Skywalker-Solo children, and that he will take on the Obi Wan role this time out.
"I'm assuming, because I haven't talked to the writers, that these movies would be about our offspring...Like my character would be sort of in the Obi-Wan range [as] an influential character...When I found out [while making the original trilogy] that ultimate good news/bad news joke...The good news is there's a real attractive, hot girl in the universe; the bad news is she's your sister...I thought, 'Well, I'm going to wind up like Sir Alec Guinness. I'm going to be a lonely old hermit living out in some kind of desert igloo with a couple of robots.'"
In returning to the franchise, Mark Hamill says he wants these new films to stay true to the originals.
"I said to George Lucas that I wanted to go back to the way it was, in the sense that ours was much more carefree and lighthearted and humorous...in my opinion, anyway....I hope they find the right balance of CGI with practical effects. I love props, I love models, miniatures, matte paintings...I'm sort of old school. I think if you go too far in the direction of CGI it winds up looking like just a giant a video game, and that's unfortunate. ... If they listen to me at all, it'll be, 'Lighten up and go retro with the way it looks.'"
Stay tuned as more Star Wars: Episode VII breaks daily.

What about Kenny Baker? WE NEED R2!
Honestly, I'm stoked based on this information! I would love to see them all return, but as supporting characters for the trilogy.

I think Mark Hamill should have a beard like Obi-Wan did. Maybe even Han should have one, but defiantly Luke should.

I totally see Mark as an old Jedi, in the vein of Kenobi in Ep. IV.. The rest should also only do supporting roles,.. as parents, and advise giving wise guys.. otherwise it will be stupid..

@brady1138. Lol. My friend, who saw the originals in theaters, has similar thoughts.

@thedude-abides I understand wanting to go in a new direction, but like others have said, this is actually canon and has been for a while. Their characters are supposed to look old and bruised. Not necessarily fat, no, but they should see some mileage. Han, Luke, and Leia all age and have kids who have a far superior story line to Anakin's and Luke's in my honest opinion. This would be the perfect direction to go to wrap up the "canon" Star Wars story line (aka, the multi-generational Skywalker soap-opera). they will still be spitting out spin-offs that will eventually take this (now) undying franchise in new directions.

@shuabert@thedude-abides An English professor of mine once said that the language can be flexible. Since we have many goofy, made up words put into the lexicon through slang usage, I see no fault in what Orange wrote. Therefore, The writer is free to go on writing as he please, without admonition from the MW court. Case dismissed.

I would like to see them all return...except Carry. Honestly, I have a perfect image of her in the gold bikini in 1983 and if we see her back in the Galaxy Far Far Away 30 years later, I think it'll ruin that image for me.

@shuabert Like I told @ejk1, in that case, please disregard the second half of my previous comment. Still, I'm not sure there is anything wrong with the way the headline is worded, but my apologies for misconstruing your initial statement.

Hamill and Fisher look like many people in their 50s look, and Ford like someone who is 70. Why should attempts be made to make actors look younger than the characters they're portraying? Did they try to de-age Ian McKellan or Christopher Lee in Lord of the Rings?
On the headline, @shnoopbop is correct in his assessment of my comment. The headline "Mark Hamill Confirms Himself, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels Are in Talks for Star Wars: Episode VII" makes no grammatical sense and should read "Mark Hamill Confirms He, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Billy Dee Williams and Anthony Daniels Are in Talks for Star Wars: Episode VII." I merely shortened it by taking out the other actors' names to show how little sense it made.

Look, as much as I like the original cast of Star Wars, they're too old to be in the film. This new trilogy needs to expand into different stories rather than trying to remake the magic of the original films cause otherwise, it would end with sour results. Make a Star Wars movie that tackles The New Republic story please!!!! Don't stay small and save, be ambitious and take risks damn it!!

@bawnian-dexeus Lol. I'm referring more to their appearance than their age, which isn't to say looks are the only thing that matters. I'm coming more from the vantage that I would like the franchise to go in a completely different direction than the one it appears to be going. In any event, it doesn't look like that's going to be the case, so I guess I'm just going to have to deal with it :)
