Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton Return for Saw VII

Marcus Dunstan and Patrick Melton, who have written Saw IV, V, VI, are returning to script the seventh entry in this lucrative horror franchise. According to Variety, the duo is currently working on the plot, which will continue the yet-to-be-seen adventures featured in Saw VI.

As always, Lionsgate is staying very hush-hush about any plot details. While working on the Saw sequels, the pair found time to write the original film The Collector, which was directed by Dunstan and is scheduled for release on July 31st of this year.

Saw VI, which was directed by longtime Saw editor Kevin Greutert, is set to hit theaters on October 23rd.

Saw VI was released October 23rd, 2009 and stars Tobin Bell, Costas Mandylor, Mark Rolston, Betsy Russell, Shawnee Smith, Peter Outerbridge, Athena Karkanis, Samantha Lemole. The film is directed by Kevin Greutert.

Radimus, you have a point, I've watched and compared the last three films compared the first two, Saw and Saw II were almost like the foundation for who lives and who dies. But one thing I would also look at is notice how often they've changed directors. With Saw, when you had James Wan and Leigh Whannell, those two had an edge to them because everything they set up was somewhat original. With each film after that, it seems the directors and screenwriters are only just trying to pick up the slack but stay in the same mold as well.Even though I am a horror fan, when it comes down to Jason or Michael or Freddy, sure they're great, but realistically their legacy is the same with jigsaw in the sense that with every movie of theirs thats put out, the ideas have pretty much all been done. Eventually you reach a point where things just on't work anymore, Jason cant just walk into a Paint and Tile plus and beat someone to death with a calking gun, no matter how its filmed, its just done pretty much.

Again...the hard economic times argument is getting old.

The problem i have with the Saw movies are you already know who is going to live, who is going to die. And in a movie like Saw that is built on suspense and 2nd guessing, well... it just sucks. Like i said already, the first 2 were good. Saw 1 being very original and fresh. But it's going too long now and totally lost it's edge. Like most franchises.

Oh lmao... and you guys act like each movie is it's own entity; it's called a contuining storyline, ya know, some movies do it like LoTRs, The Matrix films, and Pirates of the Carribean trilogy. *there goes your light bulb*

I fully agree hiddenstranger. The reason why these movies do well is because of the storyline. The gore is the last thing I actually care about. I'm intrigued with the story, it's very well written. There are f*cking clues everywhere and it's rad. Everything said by Jigsaw or related to Jigsaw has a purpose, and I love that. There isn't stupid dialogue that isn't needed. I love the concept of Jigsaw. I don't know why some people hate it. There are a lot of movies out there that aren't nearly as well written and thought out as this franchise. The twists get me every time lol. Do you remember the 1st one when he gets up from the floor and you're like 'what the f*ck?' Yeah. Clever as f*ck. So go ahead and talk your sh*t, you couldn't come up with something this original.

This has way more story depth than any "horror icon" you guys named. It's true. For example, you can easily explain Jason, Freddy, Myers, etc to somebody, in like 3 sentences lol. I tried explaining to my mom (for some reason it was brought up while we were on vacation with my family) and it was kind of hard to explain. I had to go into detail to justify what Jigsaw did and what he was about etc. Not an easy task for somebody who has no idea.

Honestly I wish they'd kept John alive, it would have given the series alot more to work with. Tobin Bell is pretty much in my opinion what makes this movie great, I mean the traps are good, the games are intruiging, but I pretty much only watch these things anymore to see what they'll let Tobin do in his scene. Hoffman is good as the muscle for Jigsaw, but he just doesn't hold a candle to Tobin's character John, niether did Amanda (obviously). If they'd just worked around jigsaw's death then frankly the films would have come out better. I understand he had cancer and he was going to clock out eventually, but eventually isn't neccesarily three films in. Anyone agree?

Im a huge Saw fan but this is getting out of hand. I thought six was the last and was happy about that. There gonna wind up ending the series when they seriously f*ck it up beyond repair. Oh well...

Lol, you know what. When Godzilla fist came out i thought it was pretty cool. But your right, it sucks. I watched it recently and wondered WTF? But no matter what movie they make about monsters (King Kong, Godzilla, Alien, Predator) they all have to revolve around a human story line. And most of the time it's f*cking sh*t.

(That is why they will never make a Thundercats movie. There is no way to tie it together, sorry, had to add that. Been on my mind for a while)

How many times can you extend this movie and go back and add in things to make this story loop all together? Should have just ended with Jigsaw died, the story is so over the top. It's just trying too hard with the plot twists. Sigh..

Newkill200,.. Whats with the hostility? Oh i see, you put yourself into the category of people that i mentioned. Well that's your problem not mine. And your totally right about Transformers. But the difference is Tranformers has been a money cash cow for 25 years. It has a loyal fan base that wants these movies. Who the hell wakes up in the morning and thinks to themselves, "f*ck yeah, i'd love to see a new Saw movie"?.... No-One!!! Thats who!

Jesus Trav, do you actually read what you write? Your trying to tell me that Saw will be up there with Freddy, Mikey and Jason? Too many knocks to the head at football , maybe? ;)

The reason Jason and co are rated so highly and became iconic is because when they came out it was new. They were the trend setters. The First Saw movie was original and fresh, the 2nd was just good. The other movies have been very dissapointing. I love horror movies, but eventually they all run their course. Just like Jason and co. There comes a time when it's just fun anymore and it's time to move on. But like everything in Hollywood, if it makes money they will keep turing out the same sh*t with different actors.

How many Friday the 13th films are there? Nightmare on Elm Street? Halloween? The majority of horror movies have a sh*t load of sequels, and Jason, Freddy, and Michael are still considered classic horror icons. It doesn't matter. At least the Saw films are generally written well. I'm not a fan, but...it's whatever to me, ya know?

20 years from now the Saw franchise will be in the category of the franchises I listed above and someone will be re-making the first one. It's just how it works.

Messenger: I agree about the bargain bin having good flicks, but the week after the first home media release? That's a sign. Other greats are only that cheap in BB's day after X-Mas - New Year's Sale. Great flicks for exceedingly cheap prices. Regular bargain bins don't offer as much anymore, but if you dig deep enough (literally) then you'll probably find a good one.

MovieBuff: agreed, we need to STOP seeing these flicks that we criticize as crap, though I only saw "Saw IV" (2007) at a friend's place, and haven't seen #5, and don't care to see #6.

Newkill: Of all the franchises this is your favorite? Why? What's your favorite part about them? (not to criticize or anything, just curious)

And here is another little interesting piece of information i dug up.

There are now eight films possible, but this is only if the fan reception continues to be very positive, (Tobin Bell said that)
    &
Troy Begnaud, the producer of the films also stated that a 3.D Saw is a possibility, but this hasn't been offcially confirmed, just discussed.

  29. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

hmmmmm well, the reasons why these films are so successful is because it is technically the only horror movie on cinema during Halloween, and technically at them times you really want to be scared or enjoy a good horror marathon or film.
And well what better night out than going to see a Saw movie with blood, guts, violence gore and a surprise twist ending.

I've liked the films so far, so i aint bothered, 1 & 2 were the best, it should have ended at 3 but lol, these films are done on low-budget and gross in a ton load of money, juss look at the figures below.

here is the total budget it cost to make all 5 movies
    $36,000,000

Now here is the films total gross worldwide
    $668,179,508

Now you see why its gonna keep going, and come on you gotta admit for 5 films made on a 36 million dollar budget, that gross is pretty f*cking impressive also add on the fact of the certifications of the films being 18, i think that's NC-17 in the U.S

So long as stupid people pay money to see these crap movies (1 was great, 2 wasn't bad. The rest are f*cking down right balls) then the studio will keep pumping them out.

Please people,..... just walk away.... walk away!
