Marc Webb and James Cameron meet to discuss Spider-Man reboot in 3D
It seems that the makers of the 3D phenomena Avatar have been consulted for an upcoming superhero remake. MTV Splash Page recently spoke with Avatar producer Jon Landau who revealed that director James Cameron has met with Spider-Man remake director Marc Webb about the use of 3D in the film.

"Last [week] we met the director of [the next Spider-Man film]," Cameron's producing partner Jon Landau revealed to us when he stopped by the MTV studio, explaining that the Avatar filmmaker and Spider-Man's new gatekeeper compared notes Wednesday evening. "[Webb] wants to do the next one in 3-D, which they've announced that they want to do. So, we want to try to support that as much as possible."

It was said that Cameron was a big fan of Webb's directorial debut, (500) Days of Summer, which was another reason he met with Webb.

"Jim loved '500) Days of Summer," Landau continued. "It's not something that you would think is necessarily in his wheelhouse, but he really enjoyed that."

Cameron's involved now? I smell a successful franchise. Spiderman in 3D will be awesome. Swinging along with Spidey, while the buildings whip by.....too cool.

The 3D used in Avatar didn't take away from the story, if anything it enhanced the story. If there's one person you'd want advice from on making your first blockbuster movie, it would be James Cameron. Wonder if there's any chance Cameron would be a producer on the movie?

I still don't agree with this reboot idea and with it being in 3D. It still looks dumb. (sigh) I remembered awhile back, I pictured "Spider-Man 4" being in the works until the day Sam Raimi cancelled it, but I mostly blame f*cking Sony for pressuring him over the script!

This "Clash" remake looks to be pretty good depending ... but as cheesy as the original was, it's probably still the best. even with those rash SFX from the day. LOL.

@gandoff2169: [The Spider-Man] "reboot based on what was done with Batman is by far one of the most idiotic moves made by a comic movie ever." While the project obviously stemmed off The Dark Knight's success, and the producers official statement has confirmed that they're taking it in a different direction, I don't think that direction is dark, dark, dark. "Spiderman is suppost to be light, but still be on the edge of darkness." To my knowledge, that's exactly the approach they have in mind. The focus is simply shifted on Peter Parker as a teenager, dealing with both everyday problems and those ones that come in a green stretch suit and glider. I'm not in love with the idea, but I definitely wouldn't qualify it as moronic or senseless. In fact, I think many will be impressed with the end result. Including myself.

The 3D argument is debatable and could tangent out of control. I don't want to get into that. Personally, I like the idea of 3D more than I like shelling out an extra five bucks a ticket, especially if that's the only option. For example, the trailer to Clash of the Titans says, "Presented in 3D April 2...Limited 2D." WTF? My thoughts exactly.

I'm sorry but 3D sucks. Making a Spider-Man movie in 3D is a ridiculous idea. Whose ever brilliant idea it was, well, I hope he gets jumped in a parking lot.

Well, if you're going to make something in 3D, Cameron is the man to go to. No one else is better than the man who started it all.

Spiderman is suppost to be light, but still be on the edge of darkness. So the entire idea of a reboot based on what was done with Batman is by far one of the most idiotic moves made by a comic movie ever. Sam made the bar with Spiderman. With only X-Men to compare to, Sam made the entire movie franchise. I love what they did to Batman. But to go back to the drawing board due to the success from a darker Batman, and the so call huge uprising of fans hating 3, is a bad move. And to do so in 3D which still has not proven to be worth double to ticket prices to majority of movie watchers, despite what I had been done for Avatar, is even huge mistake. Mark my words. Flop in the making.

If Cameron guides with the effects, and Webb does the directing and writing, this could actually be very good end product.

so which "3D" they aiming for? Glasses needed version or effects-wise?

This is quite stupid calling BOTH 3D when they should call them what they are: anaglyphic & rendered.

  20. The Narrator: The Better Man

Lol. Comrade has a point. With Cameron being so into the character, he and Webb might talk to Sony and get Spidey a bigger budget to go 3D. However, he is not really mentoring or anything guys. Simply talking about 3D and passing around a few pointers at most. I can't wait for this reboot.

Also, the casting is not official yet so hold off on that Bawnian.

I really wasn't happy at first about the reboot, it really seems unnecessary. But I'm feeling a lot more enthusiastic now that Cameron is sort of on board in a way, if he's supervising the 3D that means the film will be shot with 3D in mind as Avatar was, and not just converted to 3D afterward. This could actually be pretty awesome! Bring it on! :):)
