Marc Guggenheim Talks Green Lantern Progress

Sci Fi Wire recently spoke with Green Lantern screenwriter Marc Guggenheim who revealed that he turned in the latest draft of the screenplay over the weekend.

"In fact, I'm ... delivering another draft today," Guggenheim (TV's Flash Forward) said in an exclusive interview on Friday. "So it continues to move forward."

The film is expected to be directed by Martin Campbell, who stepped in for Berlanti, and is slated to begin production at Australia's Fox Studios in Sydney this summer for a release on June 17, 2011.

Guggenheim confirmed that his script will focus on Hal Jordan, based on the Silver Age DC Comics incarnation of the superhero, and how he became a member of the Green Lantern Corps.

Beyond that, Guggenheim remained tight-lipped. "You know I really can't [say anything]," he said. "I've sworn a blood oath of secrecy in relation to the project. But, you know, the thing I can tell you is that it is a very loving and respectful approach."

I agree with Vis and the BD. Captain America (Steve Rogers) is my third favorite all time hero, but the fact their bringing him back so soon is a slap in the face to Bucky, and to all the emotions I had when he died. Then it'll just be like "oh he's back. What the hell was that?!" So yeah. And I never knew that Vis, but thanks for the heads up on that news.

Also, on a side note, this movie will rock. Especially with Martin Cambell and hopefully either Pine in it. Maybe Emil Hirsh however you spell him. Either way, it seems good.

GL truly needs the 'epic' touch to make it a grand movie. It needs to feel intergalatic/larger than life. This depends on the WRITING!
Cinematography and FXs alone cannot do this (FANTASTIC FOUR proved that).
I'm a fan and hope they don't screw this up. I don't feel too confident about Guggenheim, let's see.

OH, and WOLVERINE the movie was God Awful! Any MARVEL movie not done by MARVEL studios will continue to be bad! (SPIDEY 4 is next!)

Guggenheim did an excelent job on the comic runs, i think he is good for the project, since these days they hardely hire comic writers to write film s. Though i understand why, comic writers have the problem of going overboard with imagination and think the film will look exactly like the comic, they also have the problem of being cheesy and corny with the project. I'm hoping his new draft will fit well with the screen.

Wolverine the game was most definitely better than the film, which was only one level of sh*ttiness above X3.

What I loved most about the game was that it was f*cking bloody. Stabbing people in the head and everything. Of course, it wasn't great. But i had a lot of fun with it.

Yeah, I read the game was way better than the movie, which is rare for comic book movie games(that's a mouthful). But Wolverine was a disappointment, so it's not surprising

I tell Marc's story writing in the Wolverine VG was way better than the actual movie.

McDuffie has been fired from JLA and is already being replaced. he had a grand scheme planned out that would end with Dinah actually bein the leader of the team for the first time since the series started and have other big guns involved, but DC fired him from it b4 he could finish his arc.

and yeah the Steve Rogers stuff is bull sh*t, i mean i love Steve but Bucky was freakin cool and there is no need to bring Steve back, at least not this soon. i too had the same thought bout Marvel just tryin to f*ck with DC for copying them. cuz we all know Bruce will be back and DC has even said it will probably be within a year or two, makin Dick taking up the mantle almost identical to Bucky taking up the shield. either way though i think both characters should just stay dead for like 5-10 years makin the inevitable return all the more exciting. side question how long was Ollie gone b4 he came back. and how long has Arthur been dead, cuz i'm pretty positive he will be back after Blackest Night.

anyway yeah there is no need to even comment on this actual posting cuz it is all old news. Guggenhiem has said this b4 and we already knew when it was goin to start shooting. so might as well have a conversation bout the unavoidable yet kind of annoying "long awaited" return of dead heroes.

I think I've only read Guggenheim's Flash run(the short-lived series with Bart Allen as Flash in the aftermath of Infinite Crisis). It was decent and I've read good things about his other works. But can I just ask a question relating to the Flash run?...why do publishers feel the need to "shake things up" by killing off heroes and replacing them, only to have that original hero come back 2 years later? I am of course talking not only about The Flash, but Captain America. I just read that Marvel is planning to bring back Steve Rogers...what??

Just as readers get used to characters like Bart Allen or Bucky Barnes stepping into their mentors' costumes and carrying on their legacy, DC and Marvel have to screw it up...I find it ironic that Marvel's tag line for Secret Invasion was "Embrace Change" and yet they are bringing Steve Rogers back AND Spider-Man was reverted back to his high school years in "One More Day"(i.e. living with Aunt May and not married to MJ). DC is just at fault. I bet Bruce Wayne will be brought back by a Lazarus Pit or some sh*t like that. His death was a cheap shot(they only did it because Marvel killed Cap) but as long as it's done, keep it that way so we can enjoy Dick as Batman and Damien as Robin. Hey, come to think of it, maybe that's why Marvel's bringing Rogers back-to get back at DC HA!

Anyway, I'm sick of publishers thinking like this. Hal Jordan's return was welcome with open arms because he'd been gone for so long. We got to experience Kyle Rayner as GL in his own solo series and JLA. It was time for him to come back. So was Thor's return...there's no other "thors" to replace him lol But Cap coming back after 2 years to "end" Dark Reign is just stupid. And it's not just resurrections I'm having a problem with. Brad Meltzer's run on Justice League of America was one of the smartest stories in a monthly team book I've ever read. He introduced a new team that was promising and represented everything that made the JLA great. When he left, Dwayne McDuffie started out promising, but after Final Crisis, the team is hardly what it was before and it's turning into just another random team book that will get canceled if a new creative team doesn't jump on board soon. It seems Final Crisis did more damage than good for DC(in terms of quality books). At least Marvel knows how to do an event with Civil War and Secret Invasion(the tie-ins to SI, especially the Avengers titles by Bendis, were better than the actual mini, though), and that the New Avengers remains a quality read with Bendis still at the helm, unlike Justice League of America, which is suffering from too many changes with artists and the team roster.

Okay...sorry for the rant. Back to the original topic-I feel this movie is in safe hands with Guggenheim and especially Campbell behind it and I am anticipating hearing casting news.

The first draft was decent from a comic book-lay man's perspective. I expect the newer drafts to be better, and the film to be great. Especially with Martin Campbell behind the camera.
