"When Zack [Snyder] and I were talking about it the first time, he was saying how Superman, they want to give it a more edgy feel like The Dark Knight but also make it more realistic and emotional so it's not just the all-american superhero that saves everyone. He has dilemmas and love and struggles throughout the whole movie, especially when he's a kid."
He also talked about his experience being involved with the project:
"It was really great. I didn't even really notice how big it was until I finished shooting. It was so overwhelming that it was crazy, I was like "I can't believe I just did all that." In the moment, I was really focused on the work and the acting."
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@superman81 "What are you talking about?? His suit makes him a psycho?? SR he was a stalker?? Troll on somewhere else." Actually the creepy sneak in the window late at night scene and the spy on Lois late at night scene made him a stalker. And dressing in bright blue and red and trying to be "dark" makes you look like a crazy clown.

@junior-roberts What you said about "Doom" I completely agree on. Even though Darkseid would be an amazing villain in the future, aswell as Brainiac if I may add, (By the way, in Doom, Superman fought Metallo, not Brainiac.) But here's the deal, the reason DC has yet to go to the whole Justice League thing is because they firstly wanted a independent Superman movie, with Returns. They were in no way looking for a bigger picture with that one, so there was no point in trying. Secondly, Christian Bale was only in it for the Nolanverse films, all three of them, that was it though. After Dark Knight Rises, it's over for the guy. What makes me believe that they will introduce the Justice League project in this superman movie is simple, they're starting over. They just finished the Green Lantern movie (which wasn't the worst f*cking movie seen by mankind, let's not overdo it. It could have been better if it hadn't been so poorly directed, because Ryan is amazing as Hal Jordan) and they will keep making them, improving them, This new superman is coming, who is going to realise after fighting Zod, that he cannot compete against all evil by himself, there's just no way he can comprehence it all. Batman is getting a reboot with Nolan STILL THERE. That is the next stop. After the JL has been teased in Man of Steel, they could tease it further in the next Batman movie, and there you go, you already have the two leaders in JL. They have been talking ALOT about Flash and Wonder Woman aswell. Things are slowly shaping up.

Superman doesn´t need a gritty reboot, superman is all about action, just put Reign Of Supermen on the screen and people will be blown away

@junior-roberts I have yet to see Doom. A possible problem with doing a film like this could be balancing the screen time. They would have to develop extra villains instead of just one major one. It's not impossible, just tricky.

@ghostman: Marvel JUST got their own studio a couple years ago when they were bought out by Disney. Spiderman, Ghostwriter, Fantastic Four, Blade and X-Men remain property of various other studios. DC may have to license their characters all under one studio in order to do this until they can have their own studio. But the fact that DC doesn't have a studio before Marvel is a major fail because they were doing movies before Marvel.
@ejk1: I totally agree. DC made their villains too hero specific but that's why I referenced the "Doom" animated movie. Their was a villain for each hero with a main villain leading the group. Such as Bane against Batman while Supes is fighting Brainiac. Some of the villains would be introduced in previous stand-alone films and some new, as well as the heroes. I feel that is the only way that a JLA film could be better than The Avengers film and not be similar.

That sounds a lot like he's describing Superman Returns.

@junior-roberts While I agree that it would be similar to The AVengers, Darkseid is one of the precious few villains in the DC world that can be a singular threat to the JLA. Offhand, the only others that come to mind is Brainiac, Anti-Monitor, Starro, and Nekron, who would be awesome especially if DC can somehow put a Blackest Night based film out. Of course the final two would involve the invasion element, which may deter DC from going that "copycat" route.
But that's the dilemma with DC and the JLA. They have a decidedly different feel in their approach in their hero/villain dynamic. They made most villains to be hero specific; rarely is there any crossover. They simply haven't cultivated any characters to be such.
Marvel on the other hand did exactly that. They used Secret Invasion to elevate Norman Osborn from Spider-Man's #1 enemy to the main villain in the Marvel U, and the proof was in the numbers. Fans couldn't get enough of the Dark Reign arc, especially the Dark Avengers book, which was constantly the number one selling book during it's approximately year and a half run. And when you add Osborn to complex villains such as Loki, Red Skull, Dr. Doom, Thanos, Apocalypse, and Ultron, as well as the ambiguous Galactus (he's villain out of necessity), there's no question that Marvel is better suited to pull off the team oriented film.

@junior-roberts If they were to do that, then DC would have to make their own studios just like Marvel did and reboot all their franchises Batman, Green Lantern, Superman, and then make new movies like The Flash and Wonder Woman etc;etc. That probably won't happen for another 5-10 years.

Also.... if they do make a JLA movie, which I hope they do, Darkseid should not be the villain. As much as I would love him to, that story would be WAY too similar to Avengers with Loki and his army invading Earth. Instead, they should use the story arc from the "Doom" animated movie but change it up a bit

Well Batman begins started the whole new hero trend, but TDK made a statement. Either way, I just want a good Supes to make up for Returns. It was good, but could have been so much better

Let's be honest, if DC comes out with a JLA movie anytime now, it'll just look weak compared to The Avengers (unless James Cameron directs it with Steven Spielberg and Chris Nolan as exec. producers).
The way Marvel set up The Avengers since the first Iron Man movie was risky yet strategically brilliant. They led with their more interesting and powerful characters (Iron Man, Thor, Capt. America, Hulk) first and introduced the lower level characters (Black Widow, Hawkeye) via guest appearances. Awesome!!! This was planned from day one and is now leading to a BLOCKBUSTER film of epic porportions this Summer based on something that's never been done before - merging more than one comic book/movie franchise character into one movie.
DC had the opportunity to do this many times before Marvel, but has failed. As bad as that last Superman movie was, it should have led to something bigger with a guest appearance from a JLA member. Maybe the last Batman movies could have hinted at something too. NOPE. What we get is two awesome Batman movies with practically the best Batman on screen (sorry Keaton) but no future plans to lock him in contractually to more than three movies so he could reprise the Bat mantle in other films such as a Batman Vs. Superman or Justice League film. They rather lock in Ryan Reynolds as The Green lantern and we all know how that movie turned out.
Marvel is practically batting .1000 while DC is a team with a big hitter (Batman franchise), but everyone else on the team sucks.

@Joshua-Hollaway maybe you have read comics but not Superman apparently. Clark Kent is "mild mannered" and incorruptible he is but so is Batman. Your not making a good argument that Superman cant be dark and edgy.

@superman81 first off calm down, everyone has their own opinions. Second, Batman have been pushed way more than superman. So that whole " have you read a superman comic" comment was pretty ridiculous. Also, Superman is supposed to be mild-mannered and incorruptible, it is his nature.

@ejk1 good point, they would be a good match for him and WW. Darkseid would probably be better saved for JLA as he is a more powerful enemy but he wouldnt be bad in a Superman stand alone film.

@corey i think fans are tired of the light sided Superman movies. Major complaints are #1: Lex is always the villain usually and #2: there isnt enough action. No movie has really tapped into what Superman can do. They have never really challenged him. They have done great with the cartoon Superman movies and JLA cartoon series but movies have just not wanted to go that route. Even Zod from S2 was toned down in my opinion. Great performance by Stamp but i think Shannons ZOD will be a major improvement and he will probably be the sinister villain he was in the comics.

@superman81 They should save Darkseid himself for JLA if they can, but seeing The Furies tangle with Big Blue would be a good thing. They're not kryptonite based villains, they're women, and above all, they're not someone we've seen before.

@ejk1 I agree that a JLA movie is very possible if MOS does the way WB wants it to. Hell they might even green light a JLA movie without MOS doing well. I know they are not going to set up JLA like Marvel did but look what happened to GL and I am sure Flash and WW would follow suit. Superman and Batman are the only two most fans care to see and with SR not living up to the hype its going to take Snyder doing a major overhaul on Supes to get peoples expectations high again. Darkseid would be an awesome villain as would Brainiac, I would pull more for Darkseid.

@junior-roberts Lobo? Oh no. He's not necessarily a villain, more of an anti-hero. Brainiac I'd love to see, and I'm really hoping for an eventual battle with minions from Apokolips, setting the stage for a JLA film dealing with the invasion by Darkseid fo Earth (assuming we get a Flash, WW, a real GL, and a new Batman film that fits into this line).
Sprayberry's doing the right thing here, regardless of what some people think of comparisons to TDK. Yeah, it kind of feels like RYan Reynolds comparing GL to Star Wars, but he was right to hype his film as well. It's too bad it didn't work out for Reynolds, but perhaps it will work out for Sprayberry. We'll know in 14 months.
