Christopher Meloni in talks to join Man of Steel
There is no indication yet of what role Christopher Meloni may have in Man of Steel, although it is believed to be a pivotal role. Just yesterday, we reported that Julia Ormond signed on to Man of Steel, portraying Lara, the birth mother of Kal-El (Henry Cavill). It was believed that Lara was the last primary part to be cast in Man of Steel, although it seems there may be one last crucial role left to be filled, albeit a mysterious one.
Zack Snyder is directing Man of Steel from a screenplay by David S. Goyer, which was developed by Christopher Nolan.
Production on Man of Steel is slated to begin sometime this summer.
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

@ejk1 I wasn't taking anything personally. I was just irritated at the way you were replying to me. As if your every word was scripture. From what I could tell, YOU took the article's implication that Meloni was being considered for Lex Luthor personally because it was clear you didn't want that, and everyone of your replies to me before actually finding out that he had been cast in a different role, reflected that. So don't try to turn it around on me like I was the only one at fault here. I don't play that game with people. Most especially on the internet where many think they can get away with everything.
I would've just as easily not replied to you before your last response had you not been so dead-set in your mentality. Nearly everyone in my age range who I know in real life would disagree with you, especially when you defended Nicolas Cage as being an A-lister. Regardless of the way Hollywood thinks/does things, your attitude was that you agreed with them for the most part, and therefore it was your belief that that's how it should be. All I was saying is that your belief does not make it a fact. Having an A-lister in a movie is not the main reason most people choose to watch it. Most have to have an actual interest in it outside of whoever's starring. While it's true that a lot of people use that as a deciding factor in what they watch, having a big name is just icing on the cake for some. A treat, and nothing more. If I went to see every single movie one of my favorite A list actors was in, I wouldn't just be broke - I'd be in debt. You can bet people think the same way as me in that regard.
Nowadays money is everyone's chief concern. How much can be saved vs. how much can be spent. So, while you believe Meloni may not have gotten anyone to see Superman, it's my belief that people aren't exactly going to flock to it just for Crowe, either. Call that idealogy if you want, if that's what helps you sleep better at night, but it's not going to change on your say-so.

@lane1 you should know by now that I enjoy being a self-righteous jackass :P
Seriously though, you need to lighten up. You take things way too personally. While it's great that you have your own criteria for what an A Lister should be, I'm afraid that Hollywood doesn't share that view. That's why most of the news on E, or MW, or anywhere else gravitates around the stars that will sell their movies, regardless of talent level. Yes, sometimes the great talent will be rewarded with fame and fortune, and that is a celebratory happenstance regarding H-Wood. But it usually goes the other way.

@ejk1 Do you have a problem with me I should know about or do you just enjoy being a self-righteous jackass? Read my comments. Nowhere did I say Meloni was playing Lex or even that I thought he would be. I simply said that IF he were, he may surprise you. Was it really so hard for you to simply just agree to disagree with me? Apparently so, otherwise you wouldn't have had to repeat yourself as if you thought I wasn't listening the first time, and in a snarky way.
Take your opinion (because that's what it really is) and shove it up your ass.

@lane1 Meloni isn't playing Lex. Why? Because after getting Crowe for Jor-el, they weren't entrusting Lex, a character previously played by Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey, to an actor whose greatest claim to fame is an ensemble cop show. So while you sit there and say all your idealistic "talent is what truly matters" junk, the fact is that you were wrong in your assessment. Meloni is not a big enough star to play Lex. Case closed. Thanks for playing :)

@lane1 Try Z-lister. Bottom of the f*cking barrel.

@dan1 Yeah... lol. It was simply used for comparison. I was in no way calling Christensen an A-lister. Or a B or C lister for that matter. :P

@lane1 Whoa now... I just saw a sentence that had the words "A-list" and "Hayden Christensen" in it :P

@narrator I was confused about it at first as well. Dan showed me the article from here saying Crowe was "in consideration," then all of a sudden IGN had it "confirmed." So I guess they were right, lol.

@ejk1 You're not going to convince me that Cage, or any other actor is A-list simply because of how popular they are on a single movie news website. Just as you're not going to convince me they're A-list based on the amount of money they make. I can name a dozen other websites where the administrators, and similarly, their communities, could give 2 sh*ts about a new Cage movie. At the end of the day, it's all just a matter of opinion and personal preference. I'm not going to agree with you on an actor being A-list as fact simply because you believe it to be true. It just doesn't work that way. It's simple logic. Either you believe something to be true, or you don't. But it being your opinion or belief does not make it true.
My opinion is that Nic Cage is not A-list. My opinion is also that an actor's A-list status is not determined by how much they bank or by their popularity, but by their talent. If that's what you believe, that's fine. I'm simply disagreeing with you. I could list plenty of actors who are considered to be "A-list" material based on your belief of what determines their status as such who's talents go about as far as Hayden Christensen can throw a shoe.

Wasn't really thrilled with Crowe being involved but after hearing about Ormond and now this news, I'm a bit more excited about the cast again.

Wait a second folks... when the heck did Crowe get CONFIRMED for the Jor-El role. Did I miss that? I was still awaiting solid confirmation before I got excited. Lol.

@lane1 Nic Cage is A list. How many stories has MW done on Nic Cage movies? Lots. How many for Chris Meloni films? Not many. That's just the way it is.

@ejk1, Ohhhh, okay. So by your logic, Nic Cage would be considered "A-list" because he "makes money" and "puts a lot of asses in the seats."
Sorry... but I wasn't arguing "fact," I was arguing "opinion." And my opinion is that everything you said is an opinion, and your view of how you see things in Hollywood, or whatever. So, if you want to continue to argue about that, feel free to do so. I don't recall making a rude comment to you or taking offense, but I'm glad you felt the need to comment on my "idealism".

I say he plays a detective in the movie. Maybe he investigates sexually based offenses.

@lane1 You're idealism is nice, but I wasn't talking about my individual outlook, but rather Hollywood's. Whether or not you think Meloni is talented enough, the fact is he's not A list right now. Would you seriously put him on the same level as Pitt, Dicaprio, Depp, etc? No. That's A list. They bring asses to the theater seats. Meloni is not that guy, no matter how much talent he has. It's not a matter of what you feel, but a matter of what is true.

i think he'll do well with any role given, being in the law and order series, he's had alot of experience expressing his emotions well. wish him well.

@ejk1 Well, I just have a different interpretation of what an A and B lister is. It's not their paycheck that plays into which grade they get, or deserve, for me - it's their talent. That's all I was saying. Like I said, Meloni could surprise us with a Luthor performance, whether you consider him A list or not.
11 months agoby @lane1Flag
ejk1
@lane1 A list is strictly for movie stars and TV stars that make legendary shows, with legendary paychecks, like what Charlie Sheen was making. Meloni is none of that, hence the B list ranking.
11 months agoby @ejk1Flag
Lane
@ejk1 I wouldn't exactly call him a B-lister. Meloni is actually pretty versatile as an actor. Aside from his SVU role, he also played a prison inmate on HBO's Oz (along with just about every other male cast member from SVU). He went straight from a detective to a prisoner. Yeah, that's pretty bold. :P
11 months agoby @lane1Flag
Lane
Agreed with @narrator . I love Meloni on SVU, but I can't see him as Luthor. That's not to say I don't see him being able to surprise us with a performance, but I just can't "picture" it without putting his Detective Stabler character in my frame of mind. I'd love to see him get something else, though. I'll be waiting for more news on this.

So let me get this straight. They go all out for the peripheral players like Jor-el and the Kents, but when it comes to the pivotal role of Lex, they go for a B lister like Meloni? Interesting, to say the least. I'm inclined to think he is more suited to the role of Parasite.
