The last time he looked this scraggly was in Superman III, when Clark gives up his super powers to be with human love interest Lois Lane. In the original DC Comics run, issue 132 of Superman, published in 1959, it is explained that Kal-El's hair (both facial and scalp) and finger nails do not grow in earth's atmosphere (hence the always perfect curl), nor can it be cut by ordinary means. If Kent wants to give himself a haircut, he has to concentrate his own X-ray vision into a mirror and onto his scalp. The strength of Superman's hair is even tested, and becomes a crucial plot point in the critically derided Superman IV: The Quest for Peace. It is unclear at this time if Zack Snyder is simply changing this aspect of the character, having a superhero that needs to shave like everyone else, or if these scenes pertain to Clark losing his powers, or if he is out of earth's solar system for these particular scenes (that coat would indicate that he is not). Check out the images below.

Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Russell Crowe, Henry Cavill, Amy Adams, Kevin Costner, Diane Lane, Michael Shannon, Laurence Fishburne, Christopher Meloni. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Ummm...guys. Clark Kent did not give up his powers to be with Lois Lane in Superman III. That would be Superman II. Just a "heads-up" I figure you knew already. I have faith in Zack Snyder. I think he'll bring us a great Superman movie. But I will still be missing the traditional "red trunks". Yeah, I'm old-fashioned, and nostalgic.

@zeus Again, Nolan did not write Man Of Steel, Goyer did. And Nolan left months ago to direct TDKR. Movieweb has an article somewhere about his departure. Try to keep up, my friend.

@ejik1-Thats true, but its re-writing, doesnt mean Nolan didnt have any work on it and he is also producing!!

@zeus Nolan did NOT write Man Of Steel, David Goyer (who wrote Batman Begins and outlined TDK) did, and now Kurt Johnstad is doing whatever rewrites are necessary, as Goyer departed to write Godzilla.

This is my opinion so don't get mad, but I'm more excited for this film than I am for The Avengers and Dark Knight Rises. Yes I know I'm crazy and yes I know this comes out 013 and not 012.lol

I agree with @zues, here's my problem with this! The people in charge of the "Man Of Steel" project, said it was going to be something we haven't seen before, right? Well it's almost like they are remaking "Batman Begins", with a bearded Bruce Wayne traveling the world trying to define himself. Same ole same ole...

Henry Cavill -" Nah , the beard is to try and distract the audience for what a piece of crap this movie really is."
Zach Snyder-".......works for me!"

Come on guys, im sure you can do better than this. I think this is where superman is on his way to the north pole to find his destiny, like he did he the first superman movie.. well. thats my opinion. Dont forget, since Nolan is behind this, where looking at a whole new story, like in batman begins, when Bruce is off finding himself.
