Sometimes its good to go with a different look. Laurence is a great actor and will do the role justice.

Just read about the Spiderman situation, its a good thing, but i think they need to start bringing more black superheroes who are already out there and show them off first. Marvel/D.C , they got some great black heroes, take for example Black Panther or Luke Cage or star boy, we need to start seeing these characters. Whether we like it or not, this is a stereotype world, but we need more black actors showing face or hollywood giving them a chance to show face, it will show there is balance and we are all one,i mean, why cant the next James Bond be black but black british because Bond is a british character or something extreme like that, but you see its extreme cause thats how the world wants us to see it. Change is good, change is the way forward!!

ADDICTION NON-FATAL
I too am about tradition, and wished they would have just left the character alone. Lets hope Fishburne can pull it off. Here's a bit of a tid bit, Dean Cain who beat out Kevin Sorbo for the role of Clark Kent back then, was born Dean Tanaka. His biological father is japanese. Later changed his last name when his step father director Christopher Cain (Young Guns & Pure Country) adopted him.

@gina39 Here's one: If Marvel wanted to make a true statement about their mission of diversity, why not make the new member of FF a black character, instead of replacing Johnny Storm with Spider-Man?

@gina39 Now ultimate spiderman is half black and half hispanic

@ejk1 i understand your point that with more diverse on their characters i wonder if they replace the popular characters with minorites would the audiences willing to accept it? i dont understand why they would do that....if u look at blade and spawn for example they were created with their own story lines and characters why can they do that again and make new characters instead of this ulimate comics is doing.

@addiction-non-fatal i didnt know that i am glad that things are changing i just notice that a lot of characters are now black and to tell you the truth its not about color its about the person. i cant believe that they had cold feet in 93 jeez its now 2011 and they decided to making perry white black they should of done it back in 93 and not worry about what the world was going to think.

@gina39 It's to make their roster more diverse, but I would rather that they create all new characters instead of killing popular ones and replacing them with minorities, or in the case of the Ultimates Universe, give them different names.

@ejk1 so nick fury is also on the ultimate comic world not the traditional marvel

ADDICTION NON-FATAL
Believe it or not, back in 1993 when Lois & Clark was barely getting off the ground and still in pre production, there was talk of having a black Perry White. They got cold feet, and eventually went with Lane Smith, who in my opinion portrayed him best. Kudos to casting Laurence Fishburne!

laurence is a great actor and i love some of his movies. i heard that they are getting rid of him on csi and putting him ted danson for the new csi leader. i notice that some of the white comic book characters like perry white and nick fury are now black characters i wonder why they are doing that. i wonder if that is a directors choice or studio choices.

@gina39 That news was released yesterday. It's about the Ultimate Spider-Man, not the traditional Marvel U Spider-Man.

I have to say, I am a person who dosnt like alot of changing with my comicc book characters in films. Like the rumor of robin to be a girl in the new batman movie. But this minor switch, from a older white blue collar working class expeienced look to all the same, but simply being black. If this is 100% true, and he is Perry White, I love it... He is one of my favorite actors.

I can see it. Laurence Fishburne has the talent to make the character of Perry White his own, and do the role justice.

I guess with the part going to Fishburne that the plan is to go with the tough yet refined Perry White like Frank Langella in Returns instead of the Jackie Cooper version from the original. Personally, I liked the Jackie Cooper version better, but I'm a big fan of Fishburne and I'm sure he'll do the character justice.

@ Absoulte, @ T.Shane, dont mind Mutant, just an excuse to be rude, ignorant and argue blindly, its obvious the child doesnt know what he/she's talking about. But moving back to grown up talk, Brian Cox would had been nice too, but i think Larry has more of the oosh!!
