The Man of Steel will kneel before Michael Shannon
"Zod is not only one of Superman's most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don't. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role", Snyder stated.
As General Zod, Shannon will go toe-to-toe with Henry Cavill, who plays the new Clark Kent/Superman in the film. The main cast also includes Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent.
Michael Shannon was honored with an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Sam Mendes' Revolutionary Road, with Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. Shannon was most recently seen in the award-winning HBO drama series Boardwalk Empire, from executive producer Martin Scorsese. He will next be seen in Sony Pictures Classics', Take Shelter, from director/writer Jeff Nichols.
Charles Roven, Emma Thomas, Christopher Nolan and Deborah Snyder are the producers of the film. The screenplay is being written by David S. Goyer based on a story by Goyer and Nolan. Thomas Tull and Lloyd Phillips are serving as executive producers.
Man of Steel will be distributed worldwide by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
Man of Steel comes to theaters June 14th, 2013 and stars Henry Cavill, Diane Lane, Kevin Costner, Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, Julia Ormond. The film is directed by Zack Snyder.

Looking forward to seeing him play Zod

Yea I think with Zod as the main Villian, then you can introduce Lex, and use Metallo as a filler like Batman Begins did with Scarecrow. He could fight and defeat Metallo early on in the movie and have Zod come in and be the finale of the movie. introduce Lex as a closer. that way we get a newer villain than Zod, less Lex, and a more epic show down with Zod than S2

@addiction-non-fatal I had to re-read your other comment, I said Kevin isn't a third rate actor but not in these words. Just Go back to school and the way it reads looks like your implying that he is.

@superman81 Exactly batman Batman Begins only gave us scarecrow and Raz Al Ghoul then Dark Knight came back with Joker and Two Face so theres theres plenty of room to make a great franchise

@zender No.... Kevin Spacey's not a third rate actor, Lex Luthors character in the movie was written as a third rate loser/villain. I just know if they do indeed use Lex in the upcoming movie or movies, it's time to step it up and update his character as they did in the comics, a man with great wealth, intelligence, influence and power. I expect nothing less.

@theblur92 yea I'm happy with this casting so far. And I been like others who judge before it happens but I'm happy with Zod and Shannon playing Zod. Besides I think there will be more villains in it. And this is Snyder reboot and just like Batman begins we got a starter villain that led into more. Save brainiac and darkseid for the next movies

@superman81 I couldn't agree more with what you said about Heath ledger being laughed at and I too am more than happy with this cast and Zod is a great choice for a villain because as Zack Snyder mentioned this movie is about supermans early years and Zod plays one of the biggest and most influential roles in his past and besides hes been in only one movie and Smallville is a different story all together so he really hasn't been overused at all

@addiction-non-fatal yes it was a mess that I can agree on but Ruth to me just didn't convince me and nor did Kevin Spacey...And mind your tongue he's not a third rate actor.

ADDICTION NON-FATAL
@zender That's the whole reason Brandon Ruth was cast in Superman Returns, cause it was a follow up to the 1st two movies. Hence his similarity to Reeves. My opinion as to why Superman Returns failure, is because the script and storyline were absolutely horrible. Bryan Singer ended up making an Art Piece film rather then a Superhero Movie. Not to mention the portrayal of Lex Luthor was absolutely laughable/horrible! I mean talk about a third rate loser/ameture for a bad guy. I do however hope they do the villains, storyline and action more justice this time around.

@superman81 Did I say those two actors were Emo? I said your Emo! It's called having an opinion and I choose to exercise it however I like. And do you honestly think I care whether or not I'm liked on here? Since when is up to you on whether I comment on something? If you don't like it then do something about! Oh and um you're full of sh*t! You started the whole Adam Brody crap! Big fan of the OC perhaps? Emoman81...Lol!

@addiction-non-fatal here is how much u don't know, there have been other people as well as internet rumors of Brian Cox playing white and brody for olsen. Saying that if they cast them in the roles will be ok with me does not make someone Emo. Those actors are not even Emo. U seriously need to just shut up cause u have mad several people on moviweb dislike u with ur ants and attacks. Leave the forum to grown folks and take ur hating ass on

It's just amazing how some could just based their judgment on the movies casting direction.......And it is not just any judgment but their final.......don't be so quick to judge people.....things just might end up biting you in the MO' FO' nuts.......similar cases include The Dark Knight's casting of Heath Ledger (god rest his soul).......or more recently, X-Men: First Class.....cheers

@addiction-non-fatal first off why do u keep calling smallville fans emo? Do u even know what that word means? And just because someone likes a show doesn't make them emo. U sound like a 14 or 15 year old that likes to come online when mommy and daddy are at work so u can talk tough. And Nolan picking Anthony Hall for such a mediocre role is not even relevant. It's what he did with the main cast. Bale, ledger, neeson,Cain, eckhart, oldman that counts. And TDKR is shaping up great cast wise. I'm happy with Cavill and lane and costner and Adams. Shannon too! I'm going to give them a chance cause in 2007 when Nolan picked ledger to play the joker everyone laughed and said what a crap choice. But u know what? He f*cking blew the part away and its what made TDK earn the billion dollars it has today! So just shut up stop calling people Emo when u know nothing about them and let this play out.

ill go along with this as long as they use villains that havent been done before in the sequels. but i am bummed out they went with Zod instead of someone like Metallo or Brainiac

Well, for starters, I did not hate Katie Holmes in BB. I thought she was fine for the role she was given, and at least in my opinion was more involved in the overarching plot than Maggie Gyllenhaal. As for Smallville, I brought the show up for two reasons: 1) to demonstrate how much overall screen time Zod has actually been given. It Seems like people on MW didn't know why people are making a deal about Zod being used again--I was just being informative. 2) This is quite simple, so anyone who doesn't like Smallville, please listen, because it is only being said one time: Because I can.
@dan1 I told you that the info would be coming. Within three weeks, Sucker Punch was off the top ten. Snyder needs to curb the bad press. Thanks for the shout-out, dude :)

@addiction-non-fatal do you work in the entertainment industry?
You see I've worked on and off through out the years, ranging from very small parts to building sets. To you it sounds like nothing, in large I'm still a no body and I aim to change it.
Okay you do have your own opinion but it sounds like negativity to me. I've had old friends, that were like that. Bossing me around, or just telling me that I'm worthless.
It may not be hate for you, but it sounds like you don't like the directors choice. Some times they realize it and sometimes they don't, not until its done then they think -well that's bad.
I actually like Smallville, it may have a different style but its still good even if you don't think so. I may have grown up watching the character but in general I'm not that big a fan of him. Each and every actor tries their best to capture our hearts but there are a few people that would prefer someone else.
Brandon is a good actor but I didn't like him as Superman. He looks too much like Reeves and for the fact he couldn't carry that film, that's one of the reasons why I didn't like it.
I have faith with Michael and Amy even if you don't.

@zender How so? I actually like the castings of Diane Lane & Kevin Costner. I'd of rather them give Brandon Ruth another shot but I am excited on what Henry Cavil can bring to the role. Not sold on casting Amy Adams & Michael Shannon. If I'm coming off a being cross, well why not. I mean, look at the garbage Bryan Singer & Co brought us, the only good thing about the movie was Brandon Ruth, the rest of the cast outside of Sam Huntington was horrible. I just don't want them to make the same mistakes. I respect you're opinion and you're entitled to it, whether I agree with you is another story...Cheers!!!

@superman81 No, cause if it were up to you, you would have the entire cast of Smallville in the New Superman Movie...I sh*t you not! You'd be like "OMG! They just casted my beloved Tom Welling as Supes!" You F*cking Emo! And as I said, I'm sure Nolan has been part of making the casting decisions, he approved of two horrible castings in the two Batman movies, Katie Holmes - Batman Begins which thank God she was replaced by a more superior actress, and Anthony Michael Hall - Dark Knight Returns. So having Nolan there, isn't such a good thing.

@dan1 Alright my bad, talk of Superman and Batman, got mixed up. Will that explanation due bitch? Anyway you say great casting so far, so you know they are having that troubled Lohan reading for a role in the movie right? So why not assume? @furankisan I'm actually glad Kevin Smith draft never saw the light of day! I read it a few years ago, and it was horrible. It was read like a comedy, and way to campy. No kidden, at the end of the script, in the very last scene he has Brainiac climbing out of the rubble and stares right at the camera and says "I'm a glutton for punishment." the end - credits role! Rumor was that he would had his friend Ben Affleck as Superman, Linda Fiorentino as Lois Lane. Of course when Tim Burton finally got his hands on the script, he practically changed it and Nicholas Cage became his choice to play Superman which wasn't a big improvement by any means. @furankisan

A. I don't watch Smallville. Anybody on MW that knows me, knows this. Your obsessive nature of continuing to bring up a show that you claim to hate is questionable.
B. I never said I was all for Lindsey Lohan, you make a habit of assuming a lot of people? Again, obsessive.
C. When did Nolan make a movie called Dark Knight Returns? He made The Dark Knight, and is making The Dark Knight Rises, but no Dark Knight Returns. I must have missed that one somehow.
