Major Blu-ray Titles Showcased as Japan Launches the Format

Home entertainment mavens gathered at a hotel in Tokyo, Japan to unveil new Blu-ray titles expected to also make a major impact in the US.

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, the following Blu-ray DVDs will be part of Japan's launch of the next generation format: The Da Vinci Code, Chicken Little and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

"High-definition television broadcasting is catching on quickly in Japan," Sony senior vp Kiyoshi Nishitani said. "After experiencing high-quality pictures and sound, the public's desire to enjoy even finer visual products is becoming stronger by the day."

Executives from Hollywood studios in addition to such electronics companies as Samsung Electronics Co. and Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., were also in attendance at the Tokyo hotel news conference in which 75 initial titles were announced.

The Da Vinci Code was released May 19th, 2006 and stars Tom Hanks, Audrey Tautou, Ian McKellen, Jean Reno, Paul Bettany, Alfred Molina, Jürgen Prochnow, Jean-Yves Berteloot. The film is directed by Ron Howard.
