Alex Pettyfer has signed onto star in Magic Mike, a drama inspired by actor Channing Tatum's actual days as a male stripper. In a bizarre twist, Channing Tatum will portray the older mentor to Alex Pettyfer's protege.
Alex Pettyfer set to star in Magic Mike
We first reported on this project a few weeks ago, with Steven Soderbergh attaching himself to direct, despite his supposed retirement. Reid Carolin is writing the screenplay, which follows a young male stripper (Alex Pettyfer) and the relationship he forms with an older mentor (Channing Tatum). Channing Tatum first started stripping at the age of 19, and the story is said to take place during a crazy summer filled with booze and women.
Nick Wechsler and Gregory Jacobs will produce Magic Mike along with Channing Tatum and Reid Carolin. It isn't known when production will start yet.
Magic Mike was released June 29th, 2012 and stars Matthew McConaughey, Channing Tatum, Olivia Munn, Alex Pettyfer, James Martin Kelly, Cody Horn, Reid Carolin, Avery Camp. The film is directed by Steven Soderbergh.
