DreamWorks Animation is moving forward with a new spin-off featuring the penguins from the Madagascar franchise.

The studio has hired MegaMind screenwriters Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons to script this new adventure, which will follow the exploits of penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico.

The Madagascar penguins have also been spun off into the Nickelodeon TV series entitled The Penguins of Madagascar, which is currently in its second season.

No director is attached to the Madagascar penguins spin-off at this time. The penguins will next be seen in Madagascar 3, which hits theaters on May 18, 2012.

Madagascar was released May 27th, 2005 and stars Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer, Jada Pinkett Smith, Sacha Baron Cohen, Cedric the Entertainer, Andy Richter, Tom McGrath. The film is directed by Eric Darnell, Tom McGrath.
