'Mad Max: Fury Road' Photo Reveals Tom Hardy as Mad Max Rockatansky

Warner Bros. confirms that a mysterious autographed photo is the actor on set and in costume.
Earlier today, there was an autographed photo of Tom Hardy floating around the Internet, which many claimed to be our first look at the actor in costume on the set of Mad Max: Fury Road. Tom Hardy is playing Mad Max Rockatansky in this post-apocalyptic thriller directed by George Miller, director of the original Mad Max. The role was originated by Mel Gibson. Warner Bros. has now confirmed that the following photo is in fact Tom Hardy in character as Mad Max. It's certainly an odd way to get our first look at the character. What do you think? It looks pretty accurate to us, in terms of continuing this franchise rather than rebooting it. Maybe you disagree.

I think Tom is an excellent choice to continue on the role... And CelluloidDreams it is not a remake... George Miller is directing and it is a sequel continuing the storyline... This is one movie in a really long time that I am anxious to see

I would have liked to see Mel in this. He still has what it takes after seeing Get The Gringo. But if anyone is going to replace him i'm glad it's Tom Hardy. The Road Warrior is going to be hard to beat. The best one imo.

I am excited to be returning to this world and Hardy does have some big shoes to fill but the guy is a talented actor. I have faith in his ability.

Its Miller that I am woried about. Coming off of Babe: Pig in the City followed by two Happy Feet movies having me a little worried.

I have to agree with @SpaceCowboy, @corey. Hardy, while talented, has some serious shoes to fill. This is the role that defined Gibson's entire career, and Hardy needs to capture the same charismatic rage of the character just as well as Mel did in Mad Max and The Road Warrior. It's paramount. Otherwise, the character's never ceasing aggression will just be lost in an all-too-typical anger driven performance. Still, visually speaking, Hardy looks to be blending into the role well, and Bronson makes me feel that he has potential to do... something with this role.

The real pressure is on Miller. He created this bad boy. Will he pull a Lucas and endanger the franchise with a too-little, too-late prequel? Only time will tell.

This might be a rare case where the star in the remake plays the character better than the actor in the original.
