Mad Max Coming Back as a 3-D Anime? Without Mel Gibson?

It seems that the writer/director of a classic action trilogy is looking to do a fourth film in a much different way. According to MTV Movies Blog, writer/director George Miller wants to bring the classic Mad Max character back for a fourth film. However, the filmmaker wants to make this as a 3-D anime film, and without Mel Gibson supplying the voice.

"We'll probably go a different route," Miller told the site. He also added that he was planning on using story elements from a live-action fourth film that was supposed to happen in 2003, but was scrapped due to financial constraints due to the Iraq invasion. The plan is to shoot this in stereoscopic 3-D and they're shooting for an R rating.

"I see myself as someone who is very curious about storytelling and all its various media," Miller said. "I've always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility. It's something I've always wanted to do."

If they can get Arnold to supply a voice for the upcomming Terminator movie, with determination (and of course the right $) they could get Gibson. I can't hear anyone else doing his voice.

Without Mel? That's a blasphemy. That's almost as bad as making a sequel to a Chuck Norris movie without Chuck Norris being in it.

By the way Hollywood, don't get any ideas. Chuck WILL annihilate you all if you even think about it.

never really liked the mad max movies to be honest.... but this seems like a crap idea.... it seems to me that mel gibson is mad max the same way harrison ford is indiana jones. Bottom line i really don't give a sh*t!!!

Kyle Hannah...please don't take what I said as bitching, I understand scheduling, and the like being in film myself...however, I have a hard time seeing something that would be a continuation of the story with someone other than Mel Gibson...especially done as animation.

uh, newkill, the mad max films have their charms, but they are 80's australian films which often have/had slow pacing and a real dry approach to story-telling.

i happen to think the movies are great but you would really have to see them yourself, i wouldnt go taking someone elses opinions for it, let alone mine.

"Japanese anime is stupid" a very ignorant statement no offense that's like saying cartoons are stupid over here. As long as the original writer/director is behind it then whatever i'm cool with this. Plus he said PROBABLY without Gibson probably doesn't mean f(_)ck gibson i can do this on my own. Gibson as a writer/director/actor probably has a busy schedule as is and won't be able to sacrifice the time for a Mad Max 4 that and maybe he's one of these actors who wants to move forward and doesn't want to return to his heyday that's probably what Miller is implying...any excuse to b*tch right guys lol

"I've always loved anime, in particular the Japanese sensibility. It's something I've always wanted to do." Thats great and all but do it with a character that no one knows, not one everyone would hate to see as Anime. Japanese Anime is stupid. A Mad Max anime would be stupid. Just do a live action WITH Mel Gibson and make us happy. Please. Dumb idea.
