Robert Rodriguez's uber-violent Machete had no trouble slicing through the competition on the Blu-ray and DVD sales charts, for the week ending January 9.

The Paramount comedy Dinner for Schmucks had a solid debut as well, taking second place in DVD sales and first place in DVD rentals. Unlike many studios, Paramount does not impose a 28-day waiting period for new releases on Netflix and Redbox, which paved the way for Dinner for Schmucks' win on the rental charts.

Last week's winner on the BD and DVD sales charts, Resident Evil: Afterlife, was knocked down to second place in BD sales and fourth place in DVD sales, behind Dinner for Schmucks and Despicable Me, which held down the third-place spot.

Another Paramount new release, Case 39, finished third place on the DVD rental charts with the Warner Bros. blockbuster Inception finishing in fourth place in rentals. It was the first week Inception could be rented by Netflix and Redbox patrons.

Machete was released September 3rd, 2010 and stars Danny Trejo, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Steven Seagal, Michelle Rodriguez, Jeff Fahey, Cheech Marin, Don Johnson. The film is directed by Ethan Maniquis, Robert Rodriguez.
