Lucasfilm Responds to Fans About New Star Wars Trilogy
In a story from Video Business, it seems the company doesn't feel any need "to invest resources into sprucing up films that have already been restored to pristine form."
They are obviously referring to the "supped up" versions of the Trilogy that came out theatrically in the late 1990s and are now available on DVD.
"We put a lot of time and effort into digitally restoring the negatives for the 2004 DVD releases," said John Singh, director of publicity. "The late '90s theatrical versions represent George's vision for Star Wars. We hoped that by releasing the original movies as a bonus disc, it would be a way to give the fans something that is fun. We certainly didn't want to be become a source of frustration for fans."
The September release of Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope, Star Wars Episode V: Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi marks the first time these films will be available separately on DVD.
In an effort to smooth things over with the fans, Lucasfilm appears poised to start a publicity campaign and contact the fans directly.
