Lost Planet Film to Cost $150-200 Million?

Lost Planet
Lost Planet
It seems that an upcoming Capcom video game adaptation is going to cost some big bucks to make. According to an interview with Capcom's head of character contents business Toshihiro Tokumaru, a film adaptation of their video game, Lost Planet was said to cost between $150 and $200 million.

Speaking of "Lost Planet", that project will cost somewhere between 150 and 200 million dollars to make. The producer on the project is Avi Arad, producer of Spider-Man. I think that it is because of our original IPs that we are able to try something so ambitious. When the game creators at Capcom develop a game, they think about everything from the main characters to the setting, which makes it easy to bring our games to the big screen. In game-making, we consider the main character's upbringing, interpersonal relationships, and their place in time. But in a game we can only show a cross-section of that. In Lost Planet for example, we can show the game's protagonist on a distant planet fighting against various foes, but we can't really show his interpersonal relationships. By developing that part of it on the movie screen, we can add substance to that world and expand it.

aside from the settin, (a snowy setting) how is Lost planet like The Thing? genuinely askin, i didn't play much of the game, but i didn't think it was anything like that move.

and gears of war would be f*ckin sweat as a movie.

I reckon Dead Space would make an awesome adaptation, but it feels to much like Alien, just like Lost Planet is ripped off The Thing.

Zelda would need a great director to make it happen and a screenwriter in the Fantasy Genre. I'll say Del Toro or Jackson of our directors can be the only ones to make that.
ut it would probably be destroyed by having Link say the most dialogue.

I began writing a treatment for GTA entitled GTA: Viva Vice City (i reckon the title is quite corny (opinions plz?) but its set in Las Vegas and Miami), don't know where i put my hard copy, might have to work on that.
Also yes whoever said Vice City was already a film well GTA, Vice City was inspired by Scarface (notice Tommy & Tony have similiar Hawaiain* shirts). Also Scarface is actually a remake of the 1932 film of the same name.
And there is actually a film called 'Grand Theft Auto as well, i think it starred Steve McQueen

Also what the hell happened to The Gears Of War Film?

Yeah but we don't want to see Mario Kart the movie or Smash Bros the movie lol. Zelda movie would be interesting though, even though I have never played the game, but I understand the concept. But they are also purposely aimed at kids. Capcom makes fake violent games (if that makes sense lol) and I hate it. Street Fighter is cool, but it's not realistic at all lol. Blood would come out of your mouth if you got kicked in the face no offense. Mario Kart and Smash Bros is supposed to be kid friendly. Good games, but I'm talking about something that could be made into a movie. Lost Planet could be made into a movie, but it'd probably turn out messed up. Lost Planet on crack actually. They will change the plot, the setting (watch it'll be like a jungle planet lol). How can you have a game with guns be rated Teen? Halo is the ONLY exception cause it's massively successful and actually has a interesting plot (well the first 2 games anyway). Halo isn't aimed at kids. Lost Planet wasn't either, but they did that bullsh*t of dumbing it down for kids so they would get more sales. To me, that's bullsh*t man. Don't insult us we aren't stupid. You shoot things, there is blood and death and pain and yada yada yada lol.

i don't think there is anything wrong with kids games. i mean Little Big Planet is badass, so is Mario Kart, Smash Brother, Zelda (which by the way is the video game movie i am waiting for) there is no reason to give kids games a negative connotation just cuz they r for kids. and i would think Lost PLanet would be teen just cuz of the mild violence and gun use.

I think Lost Planet was rated E wasn't it? Or Teen? I can't remember. Unless it says Mature, it's a kids game no offense.

Resident Evil 1 & 2 are some of the worst (if you don't count any of Uwe Bolls' films that is lol) adaptations. The 3rd one was good however. They probably had more production money to spend on the 3rd which makes all the difference.

The closest game to movie adaptation thus far was Silent Hill, plain and simple. The story wasn't raped and altered like every other video game to movie adaptation.

Mediocre game. Has a great setting, an obvious rip-off of The Thing (which is okay lol), but it was too idk... it was still kinda a kids game. I watched my old roommate play the entire game on my 360, the bosses were alright, but the plot was kinda lame. Coulda been better. The money to make this game would be expensive since they would have to either fake the snow planet with cgi or fake snow or go somewhere where there is really snow and try to keep everyone warm. It'd be a cross between The Thing, 30 Days of Night, and some action/adventure sci fi flick lol. But without vampires of course. BioShock, Gears of War, and Dead Space would cost more than this film.

alright looked it up my self, and no, no video game movie has even come close to makin 200 mil, the closest is tomb raider with 131 mil. so even if the budget is 150 and it makes the same amount as the current highest grossing video game movie of all time it will still be a let down and not even break a profit.

holy crap, i agree with pretty much everything killerman has said. and anyway grand theft auto is pretty much already a movie, Scarface, guy goes from small time to big deal and all that. its the same story in every game and it is all pretty much the same story as Scarface.

there is no way that this movie will get its money back if it costs them 200 mil to make, has any video game movie every made that much, genuinely askin, cuz i just don't see it happening. this movie will at least have a chance if someone aside from Uwe Boll gets their hands on it.

  17. CB Junior

out of all games, they make a movie out of this one.the game was okay at best.instead of focusing on this, they should just do movies of grand theft auto, metal gear solid, resistance, and stuff like that with good directors.for exampl, len wiesman is doing gears of war.thats a good match.so is gore verbinski doing bioshock.now all they need to is have michael bay do resistance or the metal gear solid franchise, and have tarintino or ridley scott do grand theft auto

  18. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

Very true, but Hideo refuses to actually do a MGS film without David Hayter. In which Hayter wants no part in a film adaptation due to him actually writing a script handing it in to a studio and they told him that the script was sh*t, but they kept his draft and were using it as a blueprint / guide, and they refused him to do any future rewrites.

But I know that if there's a Metal Gear Solid movie ever being made. Hideo Kojima will do everything right. Not for the money but for the fans. Anyone in his crew will quickly be dismissed if they have any desire of just doing this for the money. He will definitely be the writer, producer, director and everything else, to make sure the film would go right. He's just that dedicated.

  20. J.A.Ottley.Writer / Director

Generally i reckon the directors see it as a good project, Screenwriters see it as a breakthru and don't research the source material or even play it.
Producers just see it as a profit, because it already has an auidence.

J.A.'s right people expectations, including mine show no limits, when i'm watching a video game adaptation. Except for Resident Evil, which in my opinion is the greatest adaptation ever. But i wouldn't say that there flops either. It's just taking a while for them to really break through. And the sorry ass directors given these projects don't make it any easier.
